If my step daughter has separated from her partner and moved counties, am I duty bound to put her and her 2 children up in my privately owned house as we do not have enough rooms/space for them all? Would Social Housing consider her as 'homeless'.

No, you are not duty bound - and I imagine that if she registers with the local council she would be considered 'homeless'.

Interesting, there was something in the paper today that councils aren't duty bound to find housing, only to assist people.

If there are childrten involved they do normaly make an effort even if they have intentionaly made themselves homeless.
