Slightly moving the goalposts on men's attire,in the army ones kilt had to be worn to a length of 2 inches above the knee. This length was rigorously checked every day on muster parade.
I will not go into other regulations concerning the kilt to satisfy the curiosity of some on AB, ;-)
I recall that old joke, about the elderly Duchess that asks a Guardsman, looking splendid in his Regimental kilt, whether anything worn under the kilt.
"No madam" he replied, "everything is in perfect working order " !
Eccles...yes, you are right about the rugby, but not all of the kilts will be worn by the Scots. There is now apparently a "Welsh" tartan ! Entirely invented of course, but increasingly seen at weddings these days.
On the only occasion that I have worn a kilt, at a New Years Eve party many years ago, I was bl***y freezing. After an hour or so, I put some thick underpants on and I was still bl***y freezing! Never again !
obviously it has to correspond with their idea of modesty
so....
