Does anyone feel Donald Trump will become the next US president? Is it going to be the Bush era all over again?

He is not even the candidate yet.
All this jollity and hoohah is about Republicans choosing him (or not) to run against Clinton.
I think most Republicans would not, in the end, choose a candidate who will obviously not win the election.
I doubt it very much BUT, if the worst were to happen then the Bush years could well look like a model of restraint and deep thought by comparison.

Some interesting thoughts / opinions here:

Donald J. Trump may be appealling to the baser instincts of a great many people 'at the moment', however, when it comes to putting their 'x's' in the relevant boxes there is so much more to consider than the populist soundbites he's blaring.
He won't even be the Republican candidate let alone the Republican President.
I think it's very unlikely. Trump primarily appeals to a certain (admittedly, not insignificant) extreme opinion, and it's hard to see him generalising that appeal across the nation. At the moment I've been a little bit dismayed to see his support in polls not collapsing, as Ben Carson's has. On the other hand, it's virtually flatlined for the last month or so in the high 30s, so if the ridiculously large field of alternative candidates starts to shrink, someone may be able to grab that majority. Or perhaps not. But even so, how can Trump be expected to appeal to the majority of less polarised Americans? I don't see that it's remotely feasible. And, if it is, I think we should all be scared of what follows.

Have they ever elected a total numpty before??
We all know the answer to that and therefore I wouldn't rule Trump out!
i think he stands about as much chance as jeremy corbyn does being the next pm

Oh Lord. Dead cert then !
Very little chance I'd have thought : for the reasons stated above
US politics is staggeringly polarised. You've only got to look at the republican candidates' responses to Obama's recent speech And left winger Bernie Sanders is doing well for the democrats.
It's a funny old business with US Presidents.

Every time they get a new one I always say to myself "Well, he cannot possibly be any worse than the last one".

And every time I have been wrong.
I can't see him winning, because in order to be in with a chance against the Democrats, the Republican Party would have to elect him as their candidate, and I can't see them choosing somebody that divisive. Palin's support must have been the last straw.

Once again, it seems that the Republican Party has landed itself with the nitwit vote.
Zacs......just read your link and its interesting that none of the people mentioned said that he would win the Presidency.
Let's hope they're right.
America with Trump in the White House would be unimaginable.
Surely it's illegal to trump in the Whitehouse?
Fascinatingly though there is another 'gonzo' candidate among the Republicans and that is Ted Cruz. He seems to be Trump's only serious opposition at the moment. None of the 'sensible' ones can get their act together
And Cruz is even more unpopular with the political establishment that the Trump.
FWIW I happen to think Obama has been a rather good president. I just hope to goodness that Hilary makes it to the White House next because the free world needs a sane leader and for all her perceived faults she does seem like the only sane candidate with a chance of making it
Hopefully not, but if he did it would be the final nail in the coffin of our special relationship.

The reason I asked I suppose is that he is the guy making all the headlines and you know what they say about publicity. Also, from what I've picked up on, I don't think the average joe could even name one of the Democrats except for Mrs. Clinton. Will America move straight from voting in the fist ever black president to voting in the first ever female one? Here's hoping I suppose, for the sake of the world.
