Does this depth of intrusion concern Facebook users? It would worry me - which is why I don't use it.

OG, before you install the App (any App) you see a list of things the App wants permission to do. You can accept as it is or untick the boxes. It may have been surreptitious in the past but it certainly isn't now.

And it's why I keep getting nagged about apps that need updating but since their new versions want loads of stuff they can't possibly reasonably justify they never will be. It is wrong that some folk have an attitude of, "If you want this reasonable function you have to accept these unreasonable demands we're making or go without". Immoral behaviour.

Could be fixed in the OS allowed one to deny permissions after loading, on an app by app basis. If the app still works then that'd be a fair work around.
OG, I can change the permissions of all my installed apps at any time.
If a permission is needed for it work and I refuse that permission then the app will no longer function, obviously, but changing permissions is not a problem
It is morally wrong and perhaps legally too. However I do not have anything to hide so why should I worry?
How can it be legally wrong when you can deny permissions BEFORE installing?
The trouble with FB is that you're on it whether you like it or not thanks to people you know who are.

You can bet there are friends and acquaintances of yours posting photographs of you all over the internet as we write. 'Photo of me and @Naomi eating Jam sandwiches'..'here's a clip of @Naomi falling down drunk in selfridges! #whataplonker' etc etc. It annoys the living s*t out of me, but there's very little you can do to control it.
Good point, ludwig. We need some sort of face cream that stops our photo being taken
Or more trustworthy friends ;-)
Ludwig seems to be confusing FB with Twitter.
The #hashtag is creeping in to FB, too. It is #everywhere
I'll keep me balaclava on, mamya
I'm banned from Selfridges.
Ludwig pretty well sums up how many people on my facebook use it. When they aren't posting new photos they are Time Hopping and reposting old ones.
What is morally wrong, and should be legally too, is the dangling of a desired app in front of people and then demanding they give personal data the author has no right to as the price. Especially knowing a proportion won't analyse what they are allowing. It is the downloader's device and data, they should be in control of what is done on their device.
OG - you don't use it so why do you care so much?
I care about the atmosphere/environment of the culture I am in. When folk accept that which should be unacceptable then it creeps into everything else, and a new level of abusing the citizen is seen as the norm. And every company or authority jumps on the bandwagon saying (tongue in cheek) that they can't see what the problem is. It is all wrong and should be stood up to.
What do you think of this App, OG? Allows you, me and everyone to check the tax and MOT status of any and every UK registered vehicle

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jvelimited.vehiclesmart&;hl=en_GB

I'll look at it in a while, but the fact is that the information is already available on your PC via the Internet. In this case the convenience for folk to check their own information was presumably deemed worth the inability to stop others; and a judgement call made. It's not ideal, it would set a precedent (although I suspect there are other things that already did that) but car tax and MOT isn't that personal though. Authorities should keep track of how much is being made public and the nature of what is.
Yesterday, I was googling for a new electric razor. I came back onto AB and lo and behold adverts for razors appeared! I find that a bit disturbing.
It only asks for permission to access Photos/Media/Files, although I don't know why it needs them. My mobile won't allow me to deny them and still download.
