Why Do Youths Hang Around Lamp Posts?

The youths around my local area always seem to be hanging around the lamp post right outside my house. There isn't a bench there, or any form of wall to lean on. They just stand there.

I recently got in trouble for vandalism section 52 due to painting anti climb paint on the lamp post. The only reason I did this was because they sometimes jump over the shed in my back garden, hurtle down the concrete alley going past my back door to just stand by the post... So I put it on the shed also.

Sometimes they are there for hours smoking and playing their 'hip-hop'.

Does anyone have any idea what else i could try without jeopardising my situation regarding the vandalism.

You have my sympathies, after it got too dark to play football in the local school field a lot of us would hang out under the same lamp-post varying from Eight upto about twenty of us, it were simply central to our homes all local, no real mischief but we surely must have made a din.

Looking back now it must have being intimidating.

It only causes me grief when I want to walk to the shops or put the bins out, it's a tedious drama. They will make a comment, but I bought it on myself by painting the blooming lamp post.

When I was a teenager, we didn't gather anywhere in particular, We joined up at the top of our street and walked the streets, ending up at the local chippy for a bag of 'bits'. Then we carried on walking.

Back when I was a youth we use to play conkers and go for woodland strolls.

We often did that as well Tilly, just more often than not we'd meet at the same place as the girls were usually playing kirby (spelling unknown) or something. I'm back in touch with most, thanks to facebook. Life was so much more simpler back then, my Mum recently commented that I only ever went home to eat.

If they were playing 'curby' (I think it's spelt) that wouldn't press my buttons. In fact I may enjoy watching. It's the arrogance and noise that causes me distress, especially when they volt over the shed.

Lol 'Curby' makes more sense with the spelling playing against a Curb.
Early to late Eighties were a different time (Yes I had a mullet once upon a time) but most are still finding their way, shunting over the shed I can easily see as annoying. Where I live now my much younger cousin used to hang withe local rabble and the quips I liked but some always thing thy're bigger than they are.

If the shed was more sturdy, I wouldn't be so aggravated. The anti climb paint has kept them away for now. Hopefully that will be the end of the shed vaulting.

I hope it has done the trick for you. My neighbour is quite an elderly gentleman and I always listen out for him (Converted house, two flats I'm upstairs) I have being known to sit on the porch entrance sharpening my scythe, I jest not some weeds needing sorting ;-)

Well, if the stained palms don't get them gone, I'm sure sharpening the gardening scythe on the front lawn with a vague expression would do the trick! Thanks for the moral support Arkisded.

The reason is there are no police due to local government cuts. So you as a law abiding resident just have to suck it up.

Theland, I've never relied on anybody and at the fine age I'm at I'm not going to start relying on the police to dispatch wild youths.
