R.ip. British Culture.

Whatever happened to British culture?
Is it completely dead or terminal?
Can it ever be revived, or do we need to adapt to the new foreign landscape?

//There's a Muslim group in my town who cook for and feed the homeless. Do you really think these people secretly want to kill them? //
No, I don't, but if push came to shove - and who's to say it won't? - I'd hazard an educated guess as to whose side they'd be on. How about you?

''We're not allowed to ignore it if someone is offended by our use of culture. It's racists don't ya know! ''
Absolute codswallop- if you allow yourself to believe that then sorry people like you are the problem in that you panda to media hysteria that flogs rags with no legitimate news. It's weird isn't it how the non Daily Mail reading contingent on this thread seem to never encounter anyone offended by Christmas, or who tells us we can't have a flag of St George etc etc etc- some people seek to be offended on both sides of the spectrum and guess what, no-one can stop you ignoring either, so stop playing the victim as though the sky is falling because someone proffered an opinion on something you don't like. If you don't want to call something 'Spring break' or 'Winterfest' just don't do it but neither I, nor anyone I personally know, have ever legitimately encountered anything or anywhere where saying Christmas or Easter will actually genuinely cause any problems. Just stick to your guns if you ever encounter that, I certainly will. It's THAT simple.
Naomi- how far back do we have to go to suit you that something is 'British' if you don't want the term to apply to real British things then from before we got all your much cherished imported culture which for some reason you think is British just because it stuck? 10 years? 50 years? 100 years? 500 years? How close to today in the near past does this apply to?

Christmas is still Christmas, Easter is Easter and will always be celebrated by Christians. What people of other faith and no faith call these holiday periods is up to them. The words haven't been banned and you can even by Christmas and Easter cards with Christian symbols and messages. I know! Shocking, isn't it?
My Radio Times uses the terms Christmas Day and Boxing Day on the relevant pages and the Salvation Army band plays Christmas Carols at my local Tesco. Sadly, the PA system inside the store still belts out the Slade and Wizzard Christmas songs at irritating regularity from the beginning of December, both of which have frequent uses of the word 'Christmas'.
I remember that Birmingham City Council did adopt 'Winterfest' instead of 'Christmas' a few years ago but that didn't last.
The Union Flag still flies from our civic and public buildings. There is even one flying at Buckingham Palace. My neighbour regularly flies the Union Flag or St George's flag from his flagpole in his front garden. As far as I know he has never been accused of racism and nobody has objected to his flags.
I presume, Cassa, that all the Christmas cards you sent out last year had a Christian theme such as the Nativity and you attended a Christmas church service. We are all free to choose how we enjoy our public holidays and those of faith are free to practice their religious customs.
