Fun

I first became a member of AB back in 2009 when I was looking for help with a crossword. Stayed because I loved the banter and the fun. People like Mrs O and Nungate were full of fun and I loved following them. AB once saw me through a very sad and lonely New Year. What has happened? These days it seems like it is all doom and gloom and folk looking for arguments about religion, politics etc. I'm all for healthy debate but ........ can things be turned around or are folks just happy the way it is?

He felt it was imperative that I learned how to fight my corner against people and knew I'd have a hard time (and good time) on here which I did. I made some lovely friends both on and off here, banjaxed a few horrors and generally enjoyed it more than not. I think it was more wildwest in the old days if I recall, but yes also much more fun as well. I think the site has slowed down a lot generally and is losing momentum which is a shame.
AB has always been a pick 'n mix really, there have always been arguments and doom - things used to be far more vicious in the past.
We have lost some great contributors, many of whom were great raconteurs and sources of witty fun threads - time can be unkind.
The site is what we, the members make it.

When I first joined (2007 different guise) the football section was thriving with sharp wit and banter and not just football fans in there. It could get a little heated and I didn't post for a couple on Months.
When they tested the now defunct Beta site about a year later, so many great posters left... but too late for me I was an AB junkie.

There's still fun and mischief on AB, just nowhere near as much as there used to be.
AB tends to reflect the wider world and hence there has been a proliferation of perpetually offended minds and that has led to over-moderation of the site.
Very little these days makes me laugh uproariously as it did when I first joined.

The thing is Spath, you couldn't turn it back to that, there is far more modding now which would instantly kill it stone dead for a start and some of the riotous and frankly shocking folks are long gone. It was more and less anti-social back in the day and I must admit I loved it.There was always a massive flame war on Sunday afternoons when people had come back from the pub, and late at night as well when a couple of the members posted who had had a few too many. Absolutely hilarious but at the same time probably not what the owners of the site really want.
