Horse Racing

A part of our British culture, but watched five minutes of the Cheltenham racing today.
Am not a fan.
Struck me that it is nothing more than cat food on legs.
Rather cruel.
We could live without it, or at least retire the horses to a decent rest home.

If you have any concerns, take it up with the British Horse Racing lot, but they are a bunch of amateurs giving rules to the professionals who look after their horses (jockeys look after their rides, generally)
By the way, a horse can fall down dead in its paddock at home without being ridden. It's called nature.

So, NJ, you've never seen the point of a multi billion pound industry? As for "It's quite obvious that some horses will be able to run faster than others", if you backed horses on speed ratings alone, you'd be on the streets with a mangy old mongrel for company sitting under a cardboard box. Tactics play a large part of determining which horses win on the day, much as they do in other sports.
No-one likes to see these beautiful equine athletes get injured but racehorses are bred to race. The clue is in the name. If you don't like watching it, you can always watch Peppa Pig.

I've never seen the point of horse racing. It's quite obvious that some horses will be able to run faster than others. You don't need to build huge tracks (which lie idle for most of the time) to prove it.
I guess you have never seen the point in
Tennis
Snooker
golf
athletics
etc
It's quite obvious that some people are better than others at Tennis, Snooker, golf, athletics etc...why build stadia to prove it.
