Do you think children who were physically punished (i'm not talking about a full belt pelting, just a spank on the bottom) turn out worse than those who werent?
I was rarely but occasionally spanked as a child, i'm grateful for it and hold no resent towards my parents. They did an amazing job at raising me.

I completely disagree Gness i'm sorry. I'm sure there are many on AB who occasionally got a slapped bottom but are very decent fair human beings, meaning they were raised well.
Maybe the children you're use to are very fair and well behaved. There are some right demons out there who can only learn from a slap on the buttocks

It's abuse because you are hurting someone......an infant as you say.
Children can be taught right from wrong without being hit.
I'm following you down the street and you drop litter.....instead of doing what I do in that situation I pull down your pants and spank you......

I did once forty odd years ago and still regret it and wish I hadn't.....never did it again with either of my children and they're fine adults.
I know from my years of working with children that hitting them because you're a parent and think that's how you produce a fine adult doesn't work......as well as being a really weird thing to do....x

I get what you mean though and fair play.. But i mean, what do you do then, if your child is playing up high heavens, maybe hitting or slamming doors, maybe even pulling hair or playing up at a family BBQ? Just shout at them or something? What if they then mock you shouting at them? Do you take the moral high ground and ignore them? Or spank them on the bottom?
