Piece Of The Manger?

A so-called authentic piece of the manger where Jesus was tucked up has been sent to Jerusalem, to the delight of some christians. How could a piece of some unknown kid's cot have been tucked away in the expectation that in 2000 years he might become famous? Is there no end to the gullibility of religious believers?

No, there is no end to it.
Or the gullibility of atheists.
For some, relics hold a lot of significance for others less so.

Thanks Scorpio. I read this in a folded paper device containing news, called the Observer, and I didn't know how to send a 'link' to AB.

Danny is it gullible of me to be a bit doubtful of the authenticity of this?
Question Author
Mamy, it's just that I don't see how this plausibly could be a bit of Jesus' manger. I would be impressed to see a thing that had once been in the hands of, or under the bum of, some wonderful person from many years ago, but only if I thought it was a pukka item.
danny, you can't seriously believe that this scrap of wood is genuine? Tell me you don't - please.
So the Pope has the full manger, if I read it correctly, and he just broke a piece off. Yeh right.
Been looking for that for years. Thought I left it in the kitchen wedged under the fridge.
My garage is full of pieces of the manger. I could be rich!
It doesn't matter to me whether it is real or not, it didn't matter when my Aunts and Uncles brought me keepsakes from Lourdes or Rome that were obviously made in China and had tap water and nothing Holy within.

If it warms the hearts of some, that's fine by me.

I'm not gullible, I'm kind - it's how I was raised.
Those IKEA mangers are always falling apart!
Atheist/Naomi, I am not in a position to say whether it is genuine, as you are not able to say that it isn't
Absolute load of tosh, no way is it from the 'manger' !
Question Author
Mamy, I know from your posts that you are kind.
Not IKEA at all, straight from the bins round the back of Pret a Manger
I don't think it's kind to lie about things like this. I've seen people weeping and wailing over so-called relics - utterly distraught - and all of them fake. That isn't kind. It's cruel.
Question Author
Danny, do you think it plausible that this is genuine?
Mamyalynne, I'm with you on this one. I'm not one bit religious, and I wouldn't decry religious belief, but, if it gives someone some comfort, then it must be OK.
