//A museum is said to be haunted by whodunnit writer Agatha Christie’s ghost.

Staff in the author’s hometown claim that Christie’s books are mysteriously knocked off the gift shop’s shelves when no one is around.
A ghostly apparition of a woman has also been caught on camera — and CCTV has filmed leaflets being apparently hurled around.//

The staff seem to be in agreement but the camera image looks a bit suspicious to me so who knows? A hoax to drum up business … or something more?

You're hoping for a ghost writer, ael.

I didn’t have you down as a Sun reader, Naomi ;)
Anyway. Of course it’s a hoax.
pixie - I don't know. Maybe the equipment isn't sophisticated enough?
Like with god... since the beginning of time, millions have desperately tried to prove one or the other exists. And nobody has even got anywhere close.
The question is more, why "would" you believe? What would you say a "ghost" actually is?
Question Author
Cloverjo, // //I didn’t have you down as a Sun reader, Naomi ;)//

I read anything and everything, Cloverjo. How otherwise are we to become comprehensively informed? ‘The Sun’ is the most widely read newspaper in the country. What better way to keep a finger on the pulse of the nation?

Pixie, //The question is more, why "would" you believe?//

No, the question is why do so many - thousands and thousands across all cultures - at the risk of ridicule and derision, insist that they have unexplained - and currently inexplicable experiences? All liars? All deluded? A combination of both? Or perhaps not.
the highest-circulation newspaper is the Metro. The Sun is second, soon to be overtaken by the Mail. Or undertaken, so to speak: the circulation of both is falling, but the Sun's is falling faster.
Nothing news under The Sun
Question Author
I think the Metro is free, jno. It doesn't compete.
"Who you gonna call?"

"Error... Poirot?"
free or not doesn't matter if you're talking about readership; the Metro's more widely read than the Sun. The fact that it's free, and is routinely left on trains for others to read, suggests actual readership may be much higher than its distribution figures.
Naomi, I think we have had this conversation before.

Your question of //No, the question is why do so many - thousands and thousands across all cultures - at the risk of ridicule and derision, insist that they have unexplained - and currently inexplicable experiences? All liars? All deluded? A combination of both? Or perhaps not.//

Could be applied word for word to any religion too. If something is unexplained, someone comes up with a theory, others follow. Even millions of claims aren't proof. Of course things happen that we don't understand or can't explain, but the leap to putting the answer down to an unproven, supernatural spirit is just as irrational. We can say we don't know, without claiming we know the answer. And for many, a ghost "is" the answer. So it is fair to ask where the proof is.
Question Author
Pixie. //Could be applied word for word to any religion too.//

No. The religious in general claim spiritual connections rather than physical experiences. It’s a poor analogy.

//the leap to putting the answer down to an unproven, supernatural spirit is just as irrational.//

That I agree with.

//So it is fair to ask where the proof is.//

Yes, it is entirely fair, but that said, for the reasons given, I don’t believe that everyone who claims ghostly experiences is either lying, deluded, or given to dramatics. So where does that leave us? Perhaps until some tangible evidence is forthcoming we should just concede that we don't know.
I was interested to read that Christie hated Poirot but was stuck with him due to his popularity.
He was a monstrous caricature
Thought you were going to change BA again when I saw this come up...
Question Author
Haha! Wait for it...... :o)

Ichkeria, I prefer Poirot to Miss Marple. An extraordinary character.
Well, we agree on some then, naomi. But I think the analogy works. Who decides what is "spiritual" or "physical"? The person themselves? How do we know they are different, let alone unrelated? There are too many presumptions for me there.
The two situations of seeing/ knowing/ believing something that an individual can't explain... and solving that by an unproven claim... doesn't seem any more reasonable in either case.
Until and unless some proof ever emerges, I will remain both atheist and... aghosteist...
I don’t want to give away the plot of Curtain Naomi to anyone who’s not read it, but I wonder if it was her way of finishing him off :-)

I of course loved Poirot but I could see why she might not ...
What proof do you want pixie? To see a spirit yourself? Well I have seen one and she was as clear as day and someone I knew. I have also had other experiences proving, to me, that there is 'something out there', but because you have had no such wonderful experiences, it simply doesn't exist in your mind. I am not a liar, nor am I delusional, but people like you would suggest I am, because I have seen and witnessed what you have not?
Georgesgirl, it was naomi who used the words delusional or lying, not me.
I have certainly seen things I couldn't explain, and even years later- I have thought of everything, and still can't. That is not, of course "proof" of a ghost though. I can't work it out myself. I genuinely don't know.
... although the number of presumptions in your post, pretty much proves what I was saying...
Mine was proof though and that is the difference between us, I am content and happy with what I saw and can work it out.
