At the beginning of ‘The Lost Libraries of Timbuctoo’, there is a snatch of what I take to be Mali folk song, starting high and powerful, quickly dropping down to an ullulating line.

The website isn’t helpful, so any Mali folk fans around? Which singer could they be using?

Thanks.

Thanks Mamya. I tried the first three, and it wasn’t, but I’ll try the rest. Good listening anyway!

Have you still got a recording of the track? Shazam is a good app. Touch Shazam to * listen “ whilst playing, it will come up with all you need to know.
Maybe it’s Salif Keita a very popular Mali singer. I have several CDs by him.

Right, this might be the best way. Sorry for the delay, but I'm partially-sighted (half-blind more like) so had to wait till I had a 'good day' for seeing the various programs!

Go to this link:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/pv5bxhydvvckud6/timbuctoo%20singer.mp3?dl=0

It might try and get you to sign up to Dropbox. Just skip the sign-up attempt (down the bottom of the panel), and carry on 'to view', then click the play button bottom right of your screen.

All you get is about five seconds of the amazing singer, then some yap from the (actually very interesting) programme.

But hopefully some lover of West African music will recognise the voice...

Ta.
