On this thread people who would never get into Mensa seem to claim they could but didn't because it has annual subs:

Mensa is a club the subs are not just for "bragging rights" you can be as involved as little or as much as you want. We have SIGs gatherings, Mensans are like masons we can look each other up in foreign countries, different towns. Often get free accommodation. There are social events every month all over the world, there are 50+ in my region alone in January. Many of you are in other clubs that pay subs you may have similar benefits or just are happy with what your club does. I get tired of people who could not get in if they tried, posting bile about what is basically just another club. PS the monthly magazine alone is worth the subs.

mozz: "Oh dear God. Did I touch a nerve or something Tora?" - not at all, just pointing out that it's just a club with subs like any other. It's no reason to insult someone that chooses to join on the basis they must be thick if they pay subs for whatever they get out of the club in question. Is everyone paying subs to every Con Club, Labour Club, British Legion, Rotary, Masons...etc etc also thick because they chose to pay subs to a club?
call me a cynic but I bet they'll let people in for a big enough "donation" lol
Saville that is. Maybe TTT as well. Who knows?

How un-woke! - how un-mimsy!
is nt the heading - let us get this STRAIGHT ?

a crayzy mod I can foretell will call around and defenstrate this thread!

untittled
no I think they are all so crazy - they wont
Why are so many posters getting so judgmental about TTT being a member of Mensa?

I pay an annual membership fee of a few hundred quid to my local rugby club, but I assume I wouldn't get judged as harshly.

I don't see the difference.

DD, you must be thick then! (sic)
DD, //I pay an annual membership fee of a few hundred quid to my local rugby club//

Disgusting! Shame on you. ;o)
My friend is a member of Mensa but he learned many years ago not to mention it on his CV.
There is no doubt that he is a very clever chap but he has no common sense nor practical skills, it is lucky he found his niche in the workplace as his social skills are poor, too.
Reading this makes one feel proud to be a bit dense
I wish I were clever, there are so many things I will never understand, such as gravity. I understand that it is a force field like a magnet and it stops us floating in to space. I don't understand why the Australians don't realise they are standing upside down.
I don't understand how tv works, especially by aerial.
Bless you Barry you’re not alone :-)
Ta :)
Barry/Ark, those who think they're the cleverest are very often the dumbest. Common sense can't be taught. ;o)

I did do the Mensa test many years ago and passed with flying colours on a few I tried but never bothered with it to join

ark: "I did do the Mensa test many years ago and passed with flying colours on a few I tried but never bothered with it to join " - How does that correlate with your 10:44 proclamation?
I don’t like to boast, so being a bit shy
TTT
no, the 180 was the result only one time. I was in in an extremely good place mentally. (I suffer from Manic Depression and was manic although this was not diagnosed until years later). I was in my teens (1980s).

I got rechecked later as part of research into MD and my scores were lower but still 150ish.

Anyhow, my brother is very intelligent too, but h is brain is capable of retaining information and he is very good at understanding Politics and History.

My brain is now fried after years of medication.

I have no doubt that you are intelligent but your AB persona shows you as being blinkered in your views, arrogant in not accepting the views of others and condescending to those who don't agree with you.

You also live with two devil dogs :-)

Have a happy new year when it arrives.
Question Author
wolf: "You also live with two devil dogs :-) " - yes well, one and a half really!
If we could just settle on anything that Tora does, has, joins or thinks being the pinnacle and unbeatable it would leave more space for menus and witty quips.
How do you get half a dog?

My new neighbour has a JR, she is 14 and sleeps most of the time. I was warned not to let my face get close to hers as she sometimes snaps and bites. She is tiny, but totally fearless.
