There's no such thing as positive discriminati on unless you are referring to discriminati on as to whether someone is capable of doing a job, or not. The term is merely used to try to pretend someone's unacceptable discriminati on is ok after all; which actually fools some ! Note though that the poster doesn't say lighter skinned folk can not apply, it merely...

The current Dorset police is not representative of current Dorset population and they're trying to address that. Here are a few more images:

This is from the Devon & Cornwall police website.
"What is Positive Action?
Positive Action is a range of measures and initiatives that we can lawfully take to actively encourage people from communities that are under-represented to bring their talent, experiences and expertise to our organisation when applying to join us.
When applying to join us, our selection processes are no different. Through the use of Positive Action, we do not seek to remove competition, rather, to allow everyone the same level of opportunity where final selection for a post is always made on the merit of the applicant."
If you think it's unlawful, it might help if you identified the legislation it contravenes.

Note though that the poster doesn't say lighter skinned folk can not apply, it merely leaves that description out implying they may have decided not to choose such applicants anyway. Clearly that crosses a line and should be illegal.

It isn't discriminating, is it?
Plainly they have an issue with not enough people from minorities, so they are keen to stress that the police is also for such applicants. The picture shows white people also. In fact two white, one Asian and one African by the look of it.
It might be better worded though, I agree.
What does "Get one to one Positive Action support into any police officer ... " mean? (!) Intravenously? Tablets?

barmaid: "It is not discrimination, it is positive action to encourage under represented sections of society to join the police. There is a difference between positive action and discrimination. " - well technically perhaps but try and reverse it and it would be unacceptable, whites blokes only? Can you imagine the uproar?
Half a million in Dorset.
According to the latest 2021 census, the population in Dorset is predominantly white (97.1%), with non-white minorities representing the remaining 2.9% of the population. Mixed people were the largest minority group in Dorset accounting for 1.2% of the population.
3% is 15,000 - I imagine Poole Bournemouth and Christchurh
