I have smoked a pipe, off and on, for many years. Not a lot - about an ounce of tobacco a fortnight.
My question : what, generally, is the public's attitude toward pipe smokers? Do I detect increasing hostility/disapproval, or am I just being paranoid ?
My opinion regarding smokeing is probably not typical in today's climate, but I really like the sweet smell of a pipe. I don't mind the smoke either, but not in a very enclosed space if the smoke is heavy. With the anti-smoking brigade, I expect you are detecting increasing hostility though, Scylax.
as you know smoking is banned in scotland, i have earlier smoked cigarettes, and now i dont smoke in germany, where the ban here is imminent(although cigarettes are much cheaper), because i have realised that the beer is so good here, i should spend my money on that instead !
I don't find anymore hostililty towards pipe smokers that I do towards smokers in general. It's just that it is very rare these days to actually find anyone under the age of about 80 that smokes a pipe!
Pipe smoking is definately something that you very rarely come across these days so the people who object, probably don't like any kind of smoking.
I personally can't stand cigar smoke, I really can't stand the smell. So to me, I would rather stand by someone who smoked 20 cigarettes or pipes a day than someone who smoked 1 cigar a day.
