Because we're part of a global liberal elite that is infiltrating everyone's lives using covert means and we have far more sinister ways of getting converts, such as our use of inisidous tools like 'sense', 'evidence', 'science' and 'facts'.

This tends to be much more efficient than knocking on doors.
Hey Waldo, But it might be fun, don't you think ?
''Hello Madam,I'm your friendly neighbourhood
Atheist. we would like to invite you to use your
brain--it may hurt for a while but the Freedom it gives
you from Blind Superstition is worth the effort.''
I'll start tomorrow.
Perhaps fear of being burned at the stake?
I think its because we already have a life!!!! and we don't need to persuade other people of anything to justify our beliefs!!

Why; when those who most require reversion come to my door?
I have had many a decent debate about atheism vs established religion and all I can draw on is my own limited experiences.
Just before we were deployed to Saudi Arabia in 1990 (Christmas eve) to take part in the assault on Iraqi forces which had invaded Kuwait, we talked about the existance of God, most of the guys in my Battalion were convinced that there was no God,\never had been, never would they believe that God existed, in short, they were 100% athiest. however, when we were attacked by Iraqi artillery, those same lads were in a trench praying to the very God they had only days before denyed ever existed.
People are only athiest when it suits them (in my humble opinion), when humans are faced with great danger, they need something to believe in,and God, (whether you believe He exists or not) is always there with you
I agree that when faced with the situation of possible death even atheist will mutter words of prayer but I don't think that means for one minute that they believe in any god! that is just absolute desperation.

I think most people would believe the moon was made of green cheese if they thought that belief would protect them from death or worst!!
ratter
my point was the hypocrisy of it all, I am a`pracicing Christiian but that is my choice, I don't knock on doors or try to convert anyone, it's their choice pure + simple
. . . so how many of these foxhole converts leap out of their trenches screaming, "You can't hurt me, I'm going to live forever with God!" . . . or is rationality a hard habit to break?
It's called a shell scrape, or fire trench,
anyway,\I left mine with the quiet conviction that I was doing the right thing and if I died, (which I didn't) then I would answer to my God, I did not try to convert any of my fellow soldiers to Christianity (even though most had already done so by proxy)
BTW most of those guys went back to being confirmed athiests immediately after the ceasefire. Just goes to show eh?
thats just more proof that belief in god is irrational, and only the irrational believe

people do tend to become a bit irrational when they are sh1tting themselves in a trench about to be blown to smithereens at any moment - even atheists

My old karate instructor would say -
"If you believe, there are no questions. If you don't believe, there are no answers"
when i ask the god of high wind to help me he always answers me with "paaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrp"
willowman, what a shame that your instructor didn't stick to karate. He probably didn't talk nonsense in that field.

That atheists yell prayers in the trenches means nothing. Men will do all sorts of weird things when in extremis. Old men faced with death have been know to scream for mothers who have been dead for years. When they then escape with their lives and revert to the sure knowledge that they have no mothers, does that make them hypocrites?
Waldo, I'm not a liberal :-)
There aren't many Xtians who are keen to meet their maker,at any time. Under stress or not.
Perhaps it is because atheists see that there is nothing in existence to convert from (if there is no God and no religion, then its just that there is no further argument or debate), whereas those who do go door knocking believe that there is something to be converted to.

Personally I dont go door knocking and I dont impress my beliefs upon anywhere else only when asked to defend them. I would hazard though, that Answerbank R&S is the closest that the collective atheists get to door knocking and their argument is reverse conversion / rather than persuasion to their own beliefs or non beliefs as it were.

Now I could add some comment regarding a Zen mind-boggling mystical all-encompassing trip into cosmic infinity, but I cant be arsed.
Aww go on octavius
please!!!
Brionon, I always think the same. Being so convinced of their final destination, you'd think they'd be eager to die - but they rarely are.
