Hi All,

Do you think there are differences between the North and South then? If you do think there are differences, what do you like about those differences? Does anyone take the stereotypes that we give each other seriously? Do you think it's all just a bit of joke that we poke fun at each other or do you think there's a serious element to it all?

(And if anyone can tell me what a stuttie (sp?!) is I'd really appreciate it!)

Cheers
China

Mr P's geography is pants.

He thinks Luton is Northern England, and when I lived in Shropshire is thought I wasn't far from the Lake District.

Luckily he has Sat Nav.
I once saw a few seconds of a documentary series, I think it was called Eastenders. All the people seemed very unhappy and were arguing. It looked like a place to be avoided.

I don't think northerns should be allowed to make programmes like this besmirching the south.

I thought Derby was up north!

Turns out it's just the midlands.

I also thought manchester and newcastle weren't that far away.

I keep thinking my housemate lives in the peak district. But apparently it's the lake district. Or is it the other way round?! Erm... Where's Kesick? (sp?? Where the make mint cake or somthing!)

I once saw a programme called Coronation Street.

Everyone seemed rather fiesty and only interested in Betty's hotpots and going t'pub.

I don't think southerners should be allowed to make programmes like this besmirching northerners.
I amaze Mr P with my ability to tell the difference between an Oldham & Mancunian accent ~ and of course West Yorkshire which is just over the way...

He cannot distinguish between a geordie and a liverpudlian ~ the twonk!
lol China Doll. I though Derby was up north until about 5 years ago. I said in a pub full of northern builders, "Derby's just north of manchester isnt it?" So I replied with the usual, if its north of Bristol, who cares>? They asked someone else in the pub, and they responded without even trying to answer and said "if its north of Bristol, whats it matter?"

and don't forget china, everyone up north works in the street they live in!

Twonk, twonk!! Pip, you said twonk!! I've been saying that for weeks... where in hells bells did I get that from?!
Question Author
Absolutely GS.

Although... some of my family are from deepest, darkest penzance... they might consider you almost foreign! ;0)
Cornwall IS foreign, isn't it? hey..they have their own language down in 'Kernow' so they are practically their own country ;o)

Twonk? I think I got it from you, CD. I rather like it :o)
Nah, Im all cornish and devon by blood. Both family names come from cornwall and devon. Penzance is my most favourite town on the british isles.
My favourite children's book is 'The Mousehole Cat'

Awww, it's one of mine too! My grandad lives right oposite the promenade.

Not sure about the mousehole cat reference though!

Bu88er... I love the word but not sure where I picked it up from. I actually think it may have just spilled out when I was attempting to call someone a tw@t or a w@nker.... hence, twonk! :0)
Here you go, CD:

Mousehole is in Cornwall :o)
I'm from Luton and now live in Shropshire. People down south are much nicer in my humble opinion!!!!!x
TWONK

Derogitary term, roughly equivalent to idiot. More insulting than berk, but less insulting that gimp.
Thought to originate in the Victorian Era meaning a lower-class foreigner.

You must have picked it up from AOG.
How can it be more insulting than Berk???? It's short for Berkshire hunt which clearly rhymes with..................
So many people use the word 'Berk', Katie..it surprises me how often you hear it used in kids tv programmes!

If only they knew, eh?
Surely a combination of those two bad words (shame on you too CD!) would be a *****?

Did you know that Betty from Corrie was 87??? Tellin' ya, there's summet in them there hot pots!
oh bum...t w a n k

Punt?

Grom's, I'm going to tell him you said that!

Thank you Katie, more proof that some people think us southeners are a friendly bunch really!

Boobies, it's the accent what makes it different innit... you say tw ank, I say twonk. It's cause I is posh, see!
