'Liberals', extemists & common sense

I think I'm about to kick a wasp's nest, but here goes...
There is a case for curbing sex and violence on TV, but if you say that, 'liberals' will compare you with Mary Whitehouse (who let's face it found Tom & Jerry offensive).
There is a case for curbing immigration into this country, but if you say that, 'liberals' will compare you to the BNP (who would expell anyone with dark skin).
There is a case against teaching homosexuality as 'normal' in schools, but if you say that, 'liberals' will say you hate homosexuals and refuse to tolerate them.
The point is, many people are sick of so-called liberals forcing their ideas on us, but are scared to speak out in case they are accused of being a fascist, a Tory or a religious fundamentalist. Debate on certain issues is stopped because the so-called liberals will immediately call you nasty names. In politics and the media, there is no centre ground any more.
What can be done?

Essentailly your opinions are only allowed if they agree with the doctrine of our liberal masters, no dissent will be tolerated. The rules are very clear:
England = Evil.
Walse/Scotland/Ireland=hard sone by the evil English
EU=Wonderful, especially France we should be more like them.
Gay=Normal
Immigration=disirable we must replace our culture for a less evil one
Muslim=Thouroghly decent people who should be allowed do do what they like.
Criminals=Do not really exist, any "crime" that is committed is a sympton of a failing society.
Prisons=Not necessary see the previous answer
Police=Tolerated as long as they nick motorists and fox hunters.
Forces=Not necessary as there is never a case when defence is needed in a tolerant society, all threats are percieved by right wingers to frighten the masses.
USA=The great Satan, no good can possibly come it.
History=Everything England did was evil and wrong and must be put right by lefty propaganda.
etc Part 2 later

No dissent will go unchallenged?
I'm assuming then your post is about to be removed and you'll be arrested!
Or do you mean that no dissent goes unchallenged - that the moment a right-wing knee-jerk pops above the parapet a Liberal appears to tell you you're talking nonsense?
Seems to me your ideal world is one where everybody agrees with your views.
Now who's intolerant of dissent again?

Gosh, I dunno.
What if there were some way of replacing those currently in power according to the will of the people they are supposed to serve? Perhaps people could indicate their choice of representative in a secret ballot, and the one with the most 'votes' gets 'elected'?
Anyone think this is an idea with legs?
Look, liberals do not stiffle debates about immigration, violence on tv or any of the other subjects mentioned.
What does happen is that when the discussion moves from being a rational, fact-based discussion into an emotion-based rant based on what some bloke down the pub said (aka 'Minterism' or 'AOG-ism'), it inevitably decends into farce.
Arguments that start 'I'm not an [insert bigotry here], but [insert assertation that proves person is exactly the type of bigot described in the first clause]' are never going to produce productive discussions. If immigration discussions become an opportunity for people to chip in with their own quite clearly racist tales of 'the blacks' or 'the asians' or 'the asylum seekers', of course they're going to get called names.
Occasionally, a sensible discussion does break out on here, but sadly it normally gets hijacked.

I don't see Jake calling you right wing to be honest Romeo but he did make an observation. I think you may have taken that a little out of the perspective it intended.
I'm always suprised that my weak little leftie wrists can cause so much damage to the gung ho right whingers. Some would have you believe that we sit round all day baing namby bamby and that being the case we should be easy prey for our right sided counterparts.
It couldn't possibly be that our lack of knee jerking and analysis of all that we read so we don't believe everything we're spoon fed is some sort of threat I'm sure.

Waldo: Another one who proves my point.
We get to elect people into power, then once in power they can pass laws without asking the people in a referendum whether or not they agree. 'Government without the consent of the governed is tyranny' - Jonathan Swift. There's an idea with legs for you.
Waldo, you are too narrow minded to discuss with, so I'll have to let you go.

I've never assumed anything about you Romeo. That would make an a55 out of 'umption'... or something like that.
But you assumed I thought that....
And I'll leave out the sarcasm when you can write a less loaded question. Or when I have a personality transplant. Which ever comes soonest.
Thanks xxxxxx

What's that, Sooty? 'It's ironic that someone writing a thread objecting to discussions being closed down because of the lazy application of labels to close down people with opposing viewpoints has just sabotaged his own thread by lazily applying labels to people with opposing views?'
You're right, Sooty - that is ironic. And a few other words. Which words? I don't think I should say, Sooty.
Well, join us next time when Sue starts a discussion on the subject 'I'm not anti-people called Romeo, but have you noticed people called Romeo can't construct a logical argument for toffee?', and Sweep will be going around slapping people upside the head.

You wrote a question complaining about debates being shut down by one side applying lazy, pejorative (means 'bad') terms to people they didn't agree with.
When people disagreed with your point, you applied lazy, pejorative terms to them.
And thus irony did arise.
I then proceeded to be deliberately insulting by making a lazy, pejorative statement about you and for some reason lazy, pejorative statements then became bad again.

Romeo, when is being called a "Tory" something to be scared of? It is hardly a term of derision is it?
What can be done.
Well I would make all the social workers, tree hugging marxist do-gooders live in commune with muslims.
I can bet you my house within a few weeks: the marxist women will be beaten for having an opinion, the white women and children will be raped, animal lovers will witness foul and barbaric halal killings, gay rights activists will be stoned to death or have hot pokers rammed up their bot bots, and for the remaining few they will be blown up in the name of allah.
I think they would soon change their mind, don't you?
