I agree a television is no contest for the provision of medical services, but I am only suggesting reintroducing the ward TV, but then allow patients to bring their own in (paying a small fee for the maintenance man to provide a PAT test if necessary)
You raise a very valid point regarding unjustified money being spent, but it is also recognised that patients respond better if they are socially interactive and this can mean watching TV. Many elderly patients lie there for 24 hrs staring at nothing for days and this is not good for their well being or indeed recovery � Even one day in hospital can feel like an eternity.
Funds are at premium because the Government are �fire fighting� daily and constantly developing new initiatives instead of perfecting and streamlining the current systems in place and with each new initiative comes a whole new budget.
Btw, I always pop to Tesco before the pictures and take sandwiches on trips � I am not mean, but I hate being fleeced and like you said, I have the choice, but in hospital you don�t � it is a captive market and they have capitalised out of it.
