I would really like some opinions on this please.
My seven -half year old daughter came home today saying that she was punished in her R.E class because when they played some Indian (Pakistan) music it made her giggle.
She just thought it was strange sounding music, but the teacher sat her down and told her to write a letter of apology to the Muslims in the class.
I am absolutely livid to say the least and really would appreciate some feedback on what I should do.
thanks in advance

If it happened to my child I'd be on the phone pronto to make an appointment to see the teacher in question AND the headteacher, and tell them a few home truths.
She's a little girl for goodness sake, not some rabid islamophobe.
If you don't get an apology from the teacher, I'd take it to the board of governors and I'd be hinting that the media may be interested in this story.

It seems to be people like your daughter's teacher who cause more trouble by their odd ability to think for other groups like Muslims for example. Muslims themselves do not object to our celebration of, for example, Christmas yet the "politically correct mafia" think they are one step ahead and ban Nativity plays etc when in fact no offence was perceived by any other ethnic group. Anyway a sense of humour breaks a lot of ice and who can suspect a child of that age to be racist when it is not a concept of which they are aware.
Octavius...I am all ears to know what went on and I will of course give the Teacher a chance to speak.
However, I know my Daughter would have only innocently giggled as htis is her nature. she has never been in trouble at school and does extremely well in class.
In fact the same teacher couldn't praise her enough at the last Parents Evening not so long ago.

That's ridiculous icemaiden, I'm getting quite indignant on your behalf. Weeal made a good point, I wonder what the teacher's reaction would have been if one of the kids had giggled or yawned during a playing of the National Anthem, not that there is much chance of that being played in schools these days. I think I would phone the Head first thing in the morning and even make an appointment with the Head and the teacher involved just to clarify the situation and if I didn't get an apology from them, I would certainly contact the media. Good luck and look forward to seeing you on the front page of the Daily Mail later this week. Let us know what happens.

Go in tomorrow - speak to the head and make sure the teacher sits down and writes a letter of apology to your daughter!!!!!!!
I am livid and I am not even involved. Indian music can make you smile and laugh and I am sure if you ask them they would be glad it had that effect on people.
You must take this further - stupid, stupid, bl..dy teacher!
