For a muslim to be allowed to eat something it has to be allowed by Allah. Allah never approved pork or meat from a pig. Pork is seen to be an unclean meat and is "haram".

There is also reasoning linked to the fact is cloven footed but does not eat the cud and the nature of how a pig has to slaughtered as it cannot be slaughtered at the neck in the same way other animals are slaughtered for halaal meat.

Thanks.

Why can't pigs be slaughtered at the neck?

The point cloven-footed animals and chewing the cud is in the bible, isn't it - and yet Christians eat pork.
True, Christians can eat pork as they aren't under thre Old Testament law. Jews and Muslims are so don't eat it. There was a problem of conserving pork and shellfish at the time but now with freezing methods this is no longer a problem. Having said this, pork is difficult to digest by the liver.... and not to be eaten regularly...
Question Author
So what event in the history of Christianity caused this Old Testament law to be discontinued?
The economy, quite simply.
Jesus was a vegetarian but someone decided it wasn't economically viable to preach this.
Why do Catholics eat fish on Fridays? Because the catholic church invested a lot of money into fisheries and made a lot of money from the sale of fish.
Someone will disagree but basically in the west the economy dictates everything.
Its only the front feet of the Pig thats cloven, so it doesn't even qualify on that score.

St Paul is the reason Christians don't obey the Kosher laws, and are allowed to eat anything they want.
The Early Christians, as you probably know, were Jews, so to attract outsiders to the new faith, he basically said that God had told him that the Kosher laws weren't necessary.

No Muslims around at that time.
Jews were not early Christians.

Christians believe Jesus is the son of God, Jews don't and never have.

Jews don't recognise the New Testament, Christians do.

It is not only pork that Muslims can't eat - other foods are Haram too: bears, cats, dogs, donkeys, elephants, foxes, frogs, lions, monkeys, raccoons, rats, snakes, squirrels, tigers, and turtles.
Ethel, I think you're confused. Lonnie didn't say the Jews were early Christians - he said early Christians were Jews - which they were. There's a big difference between the two statements. Don't forget Jesus himself was a Jew, as were his followers. Lonnie is absolutely right.
^^phew!! Thank goodness for that ! :o)
Ethel had you worried for a moment there, then, Monkeyeyes? :o)
Very early Christians were made up of Jews, Gentiles and Romans and assorted bods who don't fit any particular category :)

The Apostle Paul, for example, was not Jewish
-- answer removed --
The apostle Paul was very Jewish. He was a Pharisee called Saul who trained under Gamaliel who was a member of the Sanhedrin. He was a principal Jewish persecutor of the early Christians until his conversion on the road to Damascus. All of the 12 disciples were Jewish, as was the apostle Mark. Luke, however, was Greek.

For a muslim to be allowed to eat something it has to be allowed by Allah. Allah never approved pork or meat from a pig.

Surely, Allah never approved A Ginster's cheese and onion slice either but I saw a gentleman of Asian origin eating one.
Thankyou Naomi, and Ethel, your right about the mix of early Christians, although the first Christians were Jews, anbody at that time could become a Christian, so long as they prescribed to the Kosher Laws, and until St Paul changed that, Christianity, in its infancy, was in danger of dying out.
The reason pork is frowned on by religion is because the beast eats meat.....all carniverous beasts are suspect to human digestive systems. These were early recommendations, today we can control what our 'food' beasts eat.

Though we have moved on with animals diets, religious books have not.....nor, those fundamentalists who take the 'word' literally.
Anybody Can eat Pork. Muslims May not .
Lonnie is right that early Christians were in fact Jews, and Christians were not allowed pork either.

As far as Islam is concerned, pork is not allowed for more than one reason. And as usual I never try to prove my knowledge and instead would try to give comprehensive information. For that check this link, scroll down and click on,

6. Pig is the most shameless animal

The pig is the most shameless animal on the face of the earth. It is the only animal that invites its friends to have sex with its mate. In America, most people consume pork. Many times after dance parties, they have swapping of wives; i.e. many say "you sleep with my wife and I will sleep with your wife." If you eat pigs then you behave like pigs. We Indians look upon America to be very advanced and sophisticated. Whatever they do, we follow after a few years. According to an article in Island magazine, this practice of swapping wives has become common in the affluent circles of Bombay. "

That's genius! You couldn't invent satire like that!
