I believe we are all equally entitled to our beliefs; so here's mine:
I believe our souls, (whatever that turns out to be), live on only in the consequences of the actions we set in motion as realised in the conscious memories of those we leave behind. I hope that mine will prove to be a meaningful, if not eloquent, and cherished legacy, if only in my dreams . . .

Not in the manner of what is meant with 'life after death'.
I do feel however that a kind of spirit lives on in one's children and their children. If we provide a loving and caring home for our sprouts, it is most likely that this will carry on for generations to come, just as we are carrying our fore-fa/mother's spirit. I suppose that could be described as a soul.

Death provides the continuation of the Earths life cycle.
As for a life as we know it now after death, hovering round in the sky or in a paradise, forget it!
"When yow'm jed ,yow'm jed"
As we say round here :-)

I was once in a delightful correspondence with a good-humoured Irish priest and told him that it is almost possible to envy those who believe in an afterlife because it is a comforting illusion from which they can never be disillusioned. When their eyes finally close and they go into that black nothingness, they will have no consciousness left to know that they had been wrong all that time.
He replied to say that when I die I might have a pleasant surprise, and find that there is an afterlife after all.
To which I said that it would certainly be a surprise, but how do I know it would be pleasant?
Since I would have to endure it for ever, one tiny fault or smidgeon of boredom and I would be driven mad after only a hundred years or so.
His final thought was "R------, in all my years as a priest I have talked to many people about the afterlife, but you are the first person to do a Consumer Survey on it."
Nice man.
