yes, that's how it was first written, in 1745. It was fairly topical at the time:

I was asked to leave the hall at the local Royal British Legion when I refused to stand as they played the National Anthem. They let me back in when it had finished but.

No we will not have to change the national anthem as it will cost more than it would cost Charles or William to change their sex. It would be wise to stick with the second option.

And HM will change from meaning Her Majesty to His Majesty, for example on HMSO it will be His Majestys Stationery Office rather than Her Majestys Stationery Office.

Buenchico, you may be a republican however like it or hate it you are a subject of the queen. we aren't citizens, no matter how much spin / propaganda the labour party uses within their public announcements by using the work "citizen".
