Lol see jake there trying to explain his gaffe.
As for gay culture i think what mwba is talking about are mannerisms rather than culture.
Many of these are seen on tv but arent solely invented for the tv i dont think.
Though obviously not being an expert on gay men or women , though im surer there are a few self appointed expersts here , i have met very effeminate men and quite straight appearing gay men too.
Likewise with lesbians ive known a few rather masculine and quite agresssive lesbians and also very feminine too.
What i do wonder about is why a gay person can psot as if they speak for all gays , and expect their opinion to be like law .
Whereas if a straight guy posts about women or men their opinion is only classed as for themselves rather than speaking on behalf of all hetrosexual men or women.
Whya re gay women and gay men talked about as if theyre 1 group when surely they are as different as straight men and women?
Im speaking as a straight man who is only speaking for myself and my own opinion and im sure oter straight folk have opposing opinions to mine.
That doesnt make theirs any more valid or mine any less valid .

If you had stuck to the spirit of the post, he wouldn't have had to try to elaborate on your fundamental misunderstanding of the idea of 19th Century nationality........

My sister-in-law is gay and she tends to move within the social gay scene. I guess she feels more accepted in those circles. Maybe she's not comfortable to hold her gf's hand in a mainly heterosexual bar and maybe the mainly heterosexual customers arent comfortable with it either.
She seems to have a ridiculously busy social agenda as gays are less likely to get married, have kids and stay in. The empthasis is on fun rather than family.
I think that people do view gays differently even in todays society and that could also be a reason for them to 'set up shop' on their own.

MWB, I don`t think gays get their "mincing", "wrist gestures", & the way they speak from tv. I knew many gay men in the sixties (mostly dead, now) before "campness" was widely televised. They were all very camp, I have met many gays since who display none of the campness, even though it is widely accepted now.
I have gay friends of both sexes, some are obviously gay, others are not. I think it mainly depends on the individual`s personality, and not their sexuality.

But then again....I have a wonderful and very dear gay male friend. He's been with his bf for 18 years, and is the feminine half of the partnership.
I have to say that he's extremely affected though - limp-wristed, dithery and "girlish"., with an almost Frankie Howerd-type "Oooo" to him. I seriously wonder WHY some gay men act this way, because us females don't really act like that, so I think MWB's question was quite interesting.
