Is it I ( Not is it Me !)....or ........... are there any other people out there ......who hate/s bad grammar ? ------{ perhaps that should be.... "is there ....people" ( sing noun )...but it doesnt sound right.}
it is so prevalent these days especially on the telly. Even news readers say "I was SAT there, or I was STOOD there instead of, what we were all taught at school , i.e. "seated" and "Standing". The BBC announcers are no exception to this either. --- what a dreadful inheritance this is from what was always regarded as the pillar of English excellence.
Perhaps its because so many interfering govt education departments have seen in their wisdom to eradicate all proper grammar from school curricula over so many years. Also when we were greeted with "how are you?" we always said "fine thank you ". where /when did this Americanism crawl in from ? -- " Im good !" Surely this latter was meant to signify how excellent you were at something ......... but certainly not Grammar , it seems .

Naz is correct, I'm back. Try saying 'weird' aloud. You will notice an unaccentuated 'uh' sound after the 'ee', caused by the letter 'r' before the 'd'. I stand by all my previous posts.
I like osmosis, if only I could find a way to implement it with my morning coffee.
Or should I say weird.
Tiggerblue10, you are 'neither' or 'either' or maybe both, maybe someone can help on which is corect.
Yes Mike, we 'eard you!
Both are correct depending on context. As these words denote alternatives, it is 'either or' or 'neither nor'
Well I could be clever and weird at the same time.
My pet hate is providing instead of provided. The children in this street say on their phones "Where you to?" instead of "Where are you?" They ignore me if I correct them, so now I don't bother.
Multitasking... so that'll be both :-)
Me now lost. Me go drinkies, supper and beddy-byes.
Starbuck,

I can hardly understand the kids round my neck of the woods. Street talk is like a totally different language. I wish someone would produce a translation guide.
well this is just classic:

I don't think that this thread is going anywhere and am curious to know why INQUISITOR63 raised the matter. Is he chasing after an Avatar!!?

Ron
if weird had only one syllable, it'd be weed. There's a schwa in there, as mike says, even if you don't pronounce the R (and most people don't)
This thread was going nowhere before it was even posted. ;-)
THANK YOU, jno. eEven if there is not a God, there is someone else on the same level as me!
Yes, but it doesn't mean you're right. Surely weird can have one or two syllables depending on how you say it.
Naz...You may agree with me....It's come the time for INQUISITOR63 to say something further; if he's not just point scoring.

Ron
As jno has pointed out, if it is a monosyllabic word it must be pronounced 'weed', which is incorrect (see Chambers Dictionary for phonetic spelling and pronunciation).
..it's like 'weren't' - you can either say it weurunt, as americans tend to do, or the flatter sounding weuhnt. Both equally acceptable.
