anneasquith, your sure about that are you? I seem to recall there was some conjecture about when he was born. I think the roman church just pulled a date out of the hat ,like they did for Easter.

Yep, he was born in the summer before according to one version - the three kings turned up on Jan 6th (epiphany). Some poetic licence in the decision about 25 Dec being The Day - but that's the Official Birthday!

Received wisdom puts the date of birth in September, but given the chaotic state of the postal delivery service in those days (then as now), by the time his cards, prezzies and his mam's child benefit book turned up it was already December.
