Would you try to change yourself?
35 Answers
I've just been watching the Wright Stuff where they were discussing people who change themselves in order to improve their social standing. Would you try to change yourself - eg your speech, your looks, your body, your dress, your grooming, your manners, etc - if it meant improving your chances of getting a better job, perhaps a wealthier husband/wife, and generally moving up the social ladder?
If so, what would you change and why?

As to changing yourself, you might as well as that is the only person you can change, though you can cause others to put on a different act in your presence.

Hi Naomi, was the Wright Stuff debate triggered by this story..?

..there are plenty of things I'd like to change, but not because of any grand plan to improve my circumstances, because I'm fairly happy with them at the moment.
If I did ever feel I needed to reinvent myself to get out of a rut or for a change of direction though, I'd do it - as long as you're still you, and not projecting a false image for the purposes of deception, I don't see a problem.

I didnt watch the show, but as a general comment - yes, more and more people do change themselves to improve social standing these days. I know girls that sole mission is to bag a rich man. They aren't horrible people but they feel it is acceptable to hunt for a man who can take care of them financially rather than struggle or go out in to the world and attempt to make a career! They have different morals to women of the 50's, strong minded tough women I suppose?

I'd dress smarter if I were in a higher profile job, I don't have too much to change with the grooming, but that's it. I'm me and take pride in the fact that I'm an individual with my own character and characteristics. I'd only 'better' myself to what I considered better, never what someone else did.
