Recently a regular poster naomi24 said she was leaving Answerbank and I've just read that also sqad has decided to leave. What is going on here? Both of these posters have come across to me as rational and usually helpful human beings yet they've decided to alter their lives because of other internet users.

Who actually really gives a monkeys about anyone's opinions on the internet, especially when the views are derogatory. If someone starts being an ahole on a website I immediately get an image of a 50+ year old man sitting in his pants, spewing his hateful garbage anonymously to the internet using world.

However, naomi24 and sqad have apparently let a few retards(who probably do not interact with real people on a regular basis, and just sit at their computer all day being twanks) banish themselves from this site, even though the other 99% of people enjoy and respect both sqad and naomi's views. I just don't get it.

He would object to the 'old' there boo !!
couldnt give a stuff to be honest salla, gloves are off now :-)
Hopefully he will return...but if he doesn't there are enough of us out in internet land with medical contacts to get sensible answers to most problems...
I think you are seriously stretching the stats at 99%. I liked naomi, although I had virtually no interaction with her. I have had run-ins with sqad on more than one occasion and found him to be arrogant, rude and sleazy a heck of a lot. His medical advice left a lot to be desired sometimes too.

I thought he was a retired ENT doctor, and therefore not qualified to answer all kinds of medical issues over the net. my main problem was that he advised someone with some kind of lump that it was harmless.. and that, in my opinion, is a dangerous piece of "advice".

and he was spiteful and venomous towards me and others, his main issues being with women who didn't want to talk panties and smut with him.
His attitude to women in general was dire.

We were only good enough for sex, or to talk about sex and underwear, and we are all brainless bints in his eyes.

Odious little man.
although somewhat overshadowed by the porn we witnessed a couple of nights ago!
By him?

Urgh!
God, I missed that as well..... (Too much of my own going on.....!)
Internet flouncing is not peculiar to AB. I used to post on a site that had a well thought off, popular and knowledgable contributer. He was always at hand to answers peoples question which he did with speed and enthusiasm. Trouble is you can be elevated to prima-donna levels and become to big for the site. He had a flounce over some off-topic disagreement and dissapeared for a few months.

A few months he was back with another user-name that was sussed after a while. My theory is that I doubt he enjoyed that level of kudos 'in the real world' and although toys were thrown he probably missed the respect he got online and couldnt resist coming back.
Three things - I liked Naomi but I think her leaving was different from Sqad's. I admired her greatly for her faith but she must have got really fed up with arguing because she could not even make a dent in the confirmed atheists on Chatterbank in spite of trying very hard. Secondly, I also liked sqad. A lot of his joking was just that and I do not understand why people led him up the garden path to make him go over the top.Why take umbrage at silly jokes? Thirdly, if you are really worried about something that is going on in your world you should go to the appropriate place for help - in this case your own GP, not Answerbank, which I believe sqad often said. If you just wanted something explained he was the one to do it. He helped me several times.I hope he comes back. Having said that I like BOO as well and judging by what she has said on this thread I think she can at times be vitriolic. I did not see the other remarks, they were removed before I looked but I understand they were very bad. Is sqad himself ill? Is that why he came to the UK? Manchester has a large teaching hospital I believe. Perhaps he has had some bad news which he could not cope with and lashed out at someone else. Just a thought - probably compkletely wrong.

people come people go, long term users create different usernames and come back.

I will miss naomi, I liked her.
*completely* typing error!
hold on Starbuck - wasnt Naomi a staunch atheist?
I don't know to be honest booldawg. I used to get very confused reading those long scripts by her and the others she was arguing with, but whatever it was she was determined she was right (a bit like sqad I suppose.) I admired her for sticking to whatever it was she was!
Same thing in both cases...over the top comments went way past OTT and into abuse. Why is direct nasty abuse of an individual on the internet any more acceptable than on the phone, by email, letter or any other means? (face to face excepted as that is way worse) This site has rules, users are expected to behave (more or less) like adults and when individuals do not, the offending posts are removed. btw I think calling either of them "rational" is stretching the meaning of the word a bit.
flob get a job
Lots of Abers I miss who were fun and enhanced this site, Nok was genious for humour & none to match. Sqad in reserve for my medics as he talked sense when serious and could 'lift' the spirits of a lone woman. Legend was always kind to me. My favourite men gone.....sob sob
