Recently a regular poster naomi24 said she was leaving Answerbank and I've just read that also sqad has decided to leave. What is going on here? Both of these posters have come across to me as rational and usually helpful human beings yet they've decided to alter their lives because of other internet users.

Who actually really gives a monkeys about anyone's opinions on the internet, especially when the views are derogatory. If someone starts being an ahole on a website I immediately get an image of a 50+ year old man sitting in his pants, spewing his hateful garbage anonymously to the internet using world.

However, naomi24 and sqad have apparently let a few retards(who probably do not interact with real people on a regular basis, and just sit at their computer all day being twanks) banish themselves from this site, even though the other 99% of people enjoy and respect both sqad and naomi's views. I just don't get it.

"people expressing views in this way are not the same in real life and the anonymity gives them a different sense of freedom of expression and opinion that they don't have in their real life".

That is a fantastic observation IMO - furthermore, I believe there are individuals that are attracted to sites like this because they can develop an 'online personality' complete with matching avatar.
I can see how this sort of thing can get out of hand and that certain individuals of a 'certain psychological makeup' can go off the rails by getting too wrapped up in it.

Personally, I can take it or leave it, I have 'bouts' of AB (and Facebook) over use but if I ever feel the need to 'flounce' I'll just slope off silently. I have much more of a life in real life :-)
Exactly, AP.

I think people are confusing a 'fully-flounced leaving party' with 'just not posting'.
mrs kou and i abandoned facebook early last year, we just sloped off. we got no end of messages, emails, texts and friends saying 'did you know you are not on facebook anymore?"

errrr, yeah we did know actually.

people worry about this sort of thing, apparently.
I don't think there's anything wrong in announcing your departure really. Afterall you do make friends on here, some more than others. If you're no longer going to be posting it's kinda letting them know isn't it?

^^I'm only covering my back here really ,because when (if) I ever go, im going out all guns blazing- the halls of AB tower will shake for weeks and my username will be whispered for months, no, years with a whispered reverence.

Don't say I didn't warn you ;-)
Who's she again? ^^^

LOL @ "fully-flounced leaving party".
I wonder how many flouncers come back an hour or so later (after the final flounce message) and take a sneaky peek to see if they've caused a satisfactory reaction.

"Must've lost the thread where I announced it and wanted a host of ''poor me'' threads started in my honour ... i guess the old Ed had a clearout?"

Yours was more of...OMG I'm sick of listening to this crap...see ya when I see ya.
... as a reply, or a new thread announcing my inevitable retreat and wanting everyone to talk me out of it?
Half the people we converse with on here we probably wouldn't chose to in real life...so there always be clashes. As long as most users and the Eds can see it for what it is. It's like your mates mate who you don't really get on with...every now and then that creeps to the surface.
oh yes I wouldn't normally come out my mansion to mingle with the you riff raff lot but on here well thats different....
.....who said that.....
......lol.....
I can't see why bad manners on the internet are somehow seen as "not counting"
"I like Boo....and I like Sqad......but which one do I like best.....there's only one way to find out.........FIGHT!"

Seriously though, Both Boo and Sqad have been helpful to me in the past, like so many other people have, to which I am grateful. I will miss both of them if they were to leave.
And what exactly is wrong with me sitting in my pants, spewing my hateful garbage anonymously to the internet using world ? I think you ought to give a monkeys (whatever that is) it may need it back.
