I think it's that you'll never know if you were right, you'll only know if you were wrong.

I am a non believer, and if there had been a God, or some form of hereafter, i would have expected my OH to come back and tell me. No one can prove or disprove that there is a God or Allah, or indeed any all seeing creator, but i would like to think that rational thought or sometime lack of it, has got me to this point in life.
Anyway my first post was for anyone who has a degree of doubt or thought that he/she might be wrong. And flobadob’s question is all about that. For few here who sound 100% certain about what they believe, we can't do much. And they need not worry about something they do not believe in. In this case fire of hell.
I ask people who want proof that what proof would you believe in? What are the criteria? Or to make it simple tell me what proof do you have that God does not exist?

karl... i dont think thatd be the case though...most people in this country have been brought up with religion being pushed down their throats and i think when they grew up and started to think for themselves many would have been quite saddened at the realisation that its not true... i dont think theres many people who wouldnt prefer there to be a lovely god up there looking after us all and we get to go to heaven when we die, rather then just die and be buried...why would anyone not want that?
problem is, its just so fantastical that people feel fools for believing and so simply stop...
i know i myself, if proof was given, i would believe...id be horrified at the state of the world in his name...but id still believe...how could i not if something is proved?...isnt that the crux of this whole situation?.
problem is - people went looking for god...and unfortunately found religion instead...
