Any Theists on here that think these spiritual villagers are nuts?

Sith, //i find that particularly funny.//

Really? What’s to laugh at? Don’t you find it ironic that you’re talking about nuclear weapons in the same breath as superstition emanating from the Dark Ages? You should find that worrying.

//Britain has nuclear weapons and some people in Britain probably have weird beliefs and superstitions.//

‘Probably’ doesn’t come into it. We know they do.
exactly naomi

//‘Probably’ doesn’t come into it. We know they do.//

thats my point. In every country some people are going to have weird beliefs.

Naomi, may i ask, you say that its ironic im talking about nuclear weapons when i believe in superstition from the dark ages. How is it ironic? how are nuclear weapons and religion related in any plausible way? please tell me?
These villagers are no more nuts than people who find an image of Jesus on a slice of toast, or the word Allah inscribed inside a tomato (both of which have happened).
Sith, //thats my point. In every country some people are going to have weird beliefs.//

What? Like yours you mean?

Irony: Can we really trust people who believe that the stars were created as missiles against devils, or that mountains were made to hold the earth down - or those who welcome the prospect of Armageddon - to be sensible with nuclear weapons?
Once they have persuaded themselves that god wants them to use nuclear weapons against infidels or believers of a different sect, there will be no stopping them.
"Once they have persuaded themselves that god wants them to use nuclear weapons against infidels or believers of a different sect, there will be no stopping them." What, these poor Indian villagers? - another confused posting. Also they are Hindu, and don't talk about 'Infidels'. Hinduism is so vast, it can incorporate everything in the universe -- even you jomifl.
Khandro, a bit of cherry picking from you there. Jom's reference wasn't only to people who use the term 'infidel'. It's clear enough. No confusion.
Not really, when I say; "Hinduism is so vast, it can incorporate everything in the universe", I think that covers all.
Khandro, //Also they are Hindu, and don't talk about 'Infidels'.//

Clearly Hinduism doesn’t cover it all.
naomi, ^ The word infidel you see I have marked. It means it's a word Hindu's don't use, but everyone, and everything, even an enemy is embraced, as when the hands are help together (like our prayer gesture) and the head is bowed - 'Namasta', the Hindu says, 'I respect the divinity within you'. It is the divinity within things, not necessarily the person which addressed, so it can be even an atheist :-)
Khandro, Thanks, but I don’t need a lesson in Hinduism. You knew exactly what Jom was saying but you chose to misrepresent him, and now you’re taking us around the houses in an effort to extricate yourself. Nice try, but it doesn’t work.
Naomi, you may have, as usual, the last word. :-)
Khandro, you seem to be an intelligent sort of chap so I will credit you with being able to understand my last posting though you pretend not to, I’ll not therefore waste my time talking you through it. I know you have leanings towards eastern religions and mysticism though you obviously are not a Buddhist as you are too unnecessarily combative to be a student of that religion. It seems to me that are letting your bias towards eastern religions cloud your thinking and impede your rationality. I find your statement that Hinduism is all embracing (for which I should be grateful) rather naïve. Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims have put an inordinate amount of effort into hacking one another to pieces in recent times so are not a good example of brotherly tolerance and understanding. As for ‘another confused post’, the confusion is in your head. I find it bizarre that you accuse me of using a word that hindus don’t use and then berate me for not realizing that they don’t use it, when I didn’t refer to Hindus. You are making assumptions about what I mean and then condemning me for what is in your head. Lighten up and lose some baggage.
@
The question refers to, and attempts to ridicule, a group of Hindu villagers, nobody else. Anyone who has spent time in India - and I don't mean just smoking joints on the beach at Goa - will know how this misinterpretation of events came about. Most of the 'recent hacking one another to pieces' you refer to, was done and brought about by British rule, much earlier hacking was done by militant Islamists.
naomi, i see this has become personal ;)

No, the irony is that a lot of the most innteligent people on the earth now and in the past are religious. However to an atheist this is probably an invalid argument as if you believe in god than you are lost or something along the lines of that, am i right? Then tell me please, During the crusade era muslims who were truly religious, more religious than we are now were one of the cleverest doctors in the world. Before that, Greeks, they believed in god however they were extremely clever. Romans, again clever. All these people believed in something wherever it was one god or a thousand gods. Dont get me wrong, i am not saying atheists are dumb however you are hinting at that along the lines of muslims which i find extremely insulting but than again naomi what can i say? youre like that? However in the past there have been many religious and non religious intelligent people so you cannot say that the irony is that a religious country has nuclear weapons. Because every country has religious people, for example america, britain, russia they all are some of the most powerful countries and all have people who are religious living there.
Sith, it’s clear that with regard to the possession of nuclear weapons you don’t understand what I was saying, so we’ll leave that there. As for Islam’s past – what a pity it’s gone backwards.
by all means explain to me, lecture me. Because ive come to realise naomi that you are like a typical atheist. You think for some bizarre reason youre cleverer than anyone here, you put in snide remarks to make jokes when there is none. You may say that i have become personal. Maybe i have. No offence to you but that is me expressing my opinions.
Naomi, about islams past. if it has gone backwards why is it growing? Surely it must be shrinking? Why are there more muslims in the world than there was 1000 years ago? surely there should be less? Why is islam one of the biggest most famous religions alongside christainity, judaism, hinduism etc? Surely it should be the lowest? Please, answer me that.
Sith, //You think for some bizarre reason youre cleverer than anyone here,//

I do? You have no idea what I think – really, you don’t.

//Why are there more muslims in the world than there was 1000 years ago? surely there should be less? Why is islam one of the biggest most famous religions alongside christainity, judaism, hinduism etc? Surely it should be the lowest? Please, answer me that.//

The same applies to Christianity. More people, better communication - and more gullible people willing to believe the same lies.
