The more I read about it, Eddie, the more I am steadfastly convinced that it's a dangerous cult and one which should be investigated.
I haven't read much about it. Why do you think it's dangerous?
We saw the Scientology building in LA and it is a huge, imposing, creepy, horrible looking building. I think it's all very odd and I'm not sure of it at all.
It has been investigated several times but has been found to be perfect in every respect lol

Those that question their ethics are 'investigated' to within an inch of their lives and hounded, sometimes to suiside.

There was that tv Psychologist that was a real anti Scientology advocate and they hounded him out of tv andpracticing. When they 'investigated' him they found a couple of un credited extracts in his books ((and I THINK)) a bit af an inflation on his cv.

They hounded him so much as a fake that he dropped out alltogether. I think he should have stayed and stood up to them but the tv (was it bbc?) didn't want the bad publicity and I recon that they put pressure on them as well.

Although they don't (as far as I am aware) use bombs and guns, they do as much damage to those that don't agree as any terrorist!!
Dunno, what did the report say ?

Taking into consideration the disappearance of family members of its followers, I think it's a dangerous cult that should be investigated at federal level.
Read this and then make up your minds

R L Hubbard was an unsuccessful science fiction writer , he invented Scientology simply to make money .
The main belife is that 1,000s of years ago an alien god captured the souls of all the evil beings in the universe and dumped them into a Volcano on Earth.
These evil souls are stil there and looking for humans to 'lock into' so that they can be recreated. Scientology teaches that all humans other than the scientologists are possesed by these evil souls and we all need to take on the enlightenment of scientology to get rid of them.
I don't know much about it, but I've read articles by ex-members, and they are very disturbing indeed.
Play this link it really is what they believe !!!

They normally make recruits wait several years so that they are fully brainwashed before actually telling them this pack of Cr@p !!
Eddie - OK, it's even more disturbing now!
Its a cult, it has vast resources and it charges people to move up various levels of the "church" They appear to be devisive when it comes to families both within and outside.

Paul Haggis was a celibrity member of the church who quit, his letter is very startling in what it revels.

I think you got the short version and the long version mixed up :-)

Very interesting...
Ummm the 2nd version has 26 pages
Bloody hell. I missed that....I shall read it all.
There's a base on Tottenham Court Road and sometimes (usually on a Sunday) there are people protesting against them on the other side of the road in masks. The people who stand outside the shop don't seem particularly scary, one approached me once and then since then none of them have tried....
As others have said, its definitely sinister, and dangerous.
1. It has money - lots of money, and is an extremely litigious organisation
2. The core membership, seaorg, is run on an almost military basis.
3 Members of Scientology are discouraged from mixing with non- believers, and there have been several documented accounts of members ostracizing their family, causing pain all around
4. They have some strange beliefs about pyschiatry, counselling, and mental illness.
5. They can be very damaging to your health. Members are pressured into parting with lots of money to advance through the different stages of development - thousands of dollars.
6. They use a patented device called an e-meter to scan various supplicants within the religion. Despite losing a court case, so now they have a legal obligation to state that the object has a purely religious value, their literature and processes still encourage the idea that such meters have a medical or scientific value in treating or diagnosing illnesses.
7. Infiltration of government and other institutions in the 1970s. Scientology infiltrated hundreds of government agencies in an effort to trace and steal unfavourable documentation about L Ron Hubbard and Scientology itself, including phone tapping. 11 highly placed Scientology executives, including the then wife of L Ron Hubbard, were found guilty of obstructing justice, theft of government documents, and burglary of govt. offices.

There has been anecdotal evidence of physical beatings of members wavering in their conviction to the Church, of mental torture and solitary confinement, harassment of ex- or apostate members, and more.

Despite all of this background, they are still treated by the US Govt as a genuine religion, and as a charity with all the tax benefits that brings.
Do you know why they're still treated as such LazyGun? It sounds rather odd. I've always looked on them (and their members) as something of a joke... but then I guess thinking Tom Cruise is a bit of a nut case for joining and some poor sod with mental health problems and a low income joining are two entirely different things. I wouldn't automatically think of the latter person joining (especially given the amount of people that walk past them) but I guess some would.
(as in 'some would join' not 'some would think of it'... trying to do two things at once!)
