I would love to have a faith, but these are some of the contradictions and difficulties I can't sort out. Help would be appreciated

RC and Muslim friends in particular are confident that they are following the "true path" and that everyone else is wrong.

In world war 1, priests on each side told the soldiers that "God is on your side"

Hundreds of religions promised life after death only if you were of their particular faith. For instance, Egyptian Pharoahs went to extraordinary lengths to ensure this.. were they successful, or was the religion one of the best con tricks of all time?

When the dodgy popes sold indulgences, did the purchasers get what they paid for?

I could go on, but you should have the idea by now...

Straight factual answers would be good, not copy & pasted chunks of gunge...

Hi cupid (yawns) After I've fairly conclusively said that nobody gave any useful help with the contradictions in the OP, and that I want no more to do with this thread, along you come, blithely ignore the OP and dish out the standard Christian evangelical line.

What planet are you on? Thanks for your good wishes, but no, thanks.

If you are interested in a really good religion, why don't you join us in the First Church of Answerbank? You will be warmly welcomed if you click on our sacred mantra - Ab Editor
Is that the flounce starting ?
venator; underneath every question is the word in red letters; 'Unsubscribe', why don't you simply do this instead of being so discourteous. cupid 04 was only trying to be helpful.

Khandro, I can't see that magic word, perhaps because it's my OP?

I can't resist the horrid fascination of checking back on this thread, like picking at an old wound.

Maybe I was a bit short with Canary42, but no more so than a lot of the posts on R&S.
Having failed to acquire answers which meet with your approval here to questions regarding another alleged deity, perhaps it's of some consolation at least to have one whose existence has been demonstrated, one that can and on occasion actually does speak for itself, to fall back on.

Gee, you don't suppose you've gone and made the other one jealous then . . . do you? Or is there possibly a simpler, more reasonable explanation for why we've all been subjected to . . . the silent treatment?

Oh dear, mibn2, this thing won't just die, will it?

As I must have said somewhere, I was hoping some person with a faith would stand up and defend or explain the obvious contradictions in the OP.

I don't think this happened - there was a lot of "just believe" and "look within" - join our Alpha course, don't think, don't ask awkward questions, it's all right.

I think it's hubris on stilts to think that we are so important. We're a disease on the face of a small planet among billions of billions of planets in billions upon billions of galaxies.
I never thought of myself as a disease before - but hey, I guess we are.

Sorry, Boxie - nothing personal - it was a steal from Nietzsche - something like "Earth hath a skin, and that skin hath diseases - one of them is called Man"
