A syndicated columnist reaches to a higher source for help: he said,It is impossible to have a moral community or nation without faith in God, because everything rapidly comes down to ‘me,’ and ‘me’ alone is meaningless. The entire twentieth century is being sucked into the vortex of atheism and self-destruction.

Depends whether you think that those of us who don't believe in any deity are immoral and without any moral compass. You may believe that, goodlife, but what evidence do you have for such a belief?
good job we're in the 21st century
wellspotted dotty!
I have a perfectly fine moral compass of care and compassion for all living things that has no basis or foundation in religion thanks very much.
Let he who is with syndication cast the first gigantic generalisation.
My mother accused me once of bringing my children up "without a moral compass" because I stopped going to church. Morals are not in and of themselves the result of religion. Although most religions have some sort of moral code there are some which do not (The worship of Kali comes to mind!) I do agree that the breakdown of moral structure is worrying but not necessarily a vortex of atheism and self-destruction.
Goodlife, Do you actually have anything of your own to say?

If anything is bringing destruction to this world, it's religion. Look around you.
Wow. Doom and gloom from goodlife. Quelle surprise! Overall, I would disagree. Child mortality rates are better, longevity is greater, the world overall more prosperous. Healthcare much improved and improving.

In fact, the only cloud I see on the horizon is not the vortex of atheism and self- destruction, but the vortex of rigid doctrine from the preachers of doom an gloom, such as yourself. As to the most recent atrocities and wars, much of those can be laid at the door of the religious fundamentalists.

The faster we accelerate the process of secularism, the greater the spread of critical thinking, rationality and concomittent rise of of atheism, coupled the rejection of outdated, outmoded, xenophobic, homophobic, mysogynistic patronising garbage spouted by the evangelists, the better the world will be....

True. “All these things I will give you if you fall down and do an act of worship to me.” Although this offer was made thousands of years after the beginning of false religion, it provides the key to understanding who is behind false worship and what its purpose is. Late in the year 29 C.E., the Devil offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world in exchange for an act of worship. This episode tells us two things: that the kingdoms of this world were Satan’s to give and that the ultimate object of false religion is Devil worship. (Matthew 4:8, 9)

How's the 21st going - are we doing any better?
One word to sum that quote up.....and I do believe in god.....rollocks!
Goodlife, you really don't get it do you? YOU and everyone who, regardless of the flavour of religion they follow, thinks their way is the right way, are creating division. For 'God's' sake stop - the lot of you!! Whilst people like you willingly abandon their precious intellect to the mind-numbing superstition of the long dead and ignorant in the hope of cheating death – and that’s the sole reason you do it - this madness - because that's exactly what it is - will continue - and there will never be peace on earth.
How dare you insinuate that without religion, there is an absence of morals! Perhaps you'd rather go back to the days when religious tyrants ruled counties and everyone lived in fear of being accused of atheism and the consequences that brought. You are seriously deluded.
There are plenty of yardsticks for moral behaviour, without following the Watchtower.
The last part of your C&P comes from Solzhenitsyn. The actual quote is: "The entire twentieth century is being sucked into the vortex of atheism and self-destruction. We can only reach with determination for the warm hand of God, which we have so rashly and self-confidently pushed away ... There is nothing else to cling to in the landslide."

The first part seems to come from 'Some spud' on Yahoo Answers.

If you are going to copy and paste your "questions", why not do a bit of basic Googling first and think twice about posting any that are utter gibberish? This would have the added bonus of decreasing the new questions on B&S by roughly 50%.

You say this as if the concept of of a "moral breakdown" is taken as read.
WHAT "moral breakdown"? What (in your opinion) is a) a "moral"? b) a "moral breakdown" ?
You also assume that so called "atheism" and "self destruction" is a "vortex" - I despute this.
Ah, I just read Naomi's answer to you and your (non) response.
I expect no answer.
Good luck with your switched-off, blind "faith".
