As historically, so much great art is predicated on a strong feeling for God, do heathens feel at a loss not to be able to fully encompass some of humankind's greatest creations?

Sarcasm much
Grammar little, syntax none.
No. Why would they? Are they, in your opinion, 'at a loss not to be able to fully encompass some of humankind's greatest creations'?
Oops, didn't see Ludwig's post. He's got it in one!

//just because I don't feel the same passion for the subject, doesn't mean I can't enjoy their gift.// Well yes, but in a limited way, you may well experience the form, but not the substance.
Well yes, but in a limited way, you may well experience the form, but not the substance.

Calling delusional pomposity central........
// ..and then a quick dash to the sarcasm shop mate? //

Me sarcastic? surely not.
Really though, the question is so silly it doesn't warrant a serious reply.
If you inculcate someone you can persuade them to believe anything.
Beauty or ugliness, where there is by common consent ,none.

The art world is full of that nonsense.
Have you seen the Winged Victory of Samothrace, Khandro?
Khandro, my wife (who used to be an art teacher) says that you are talking bollux. You may find that to better appreciate art, an understanding of art history is more helpful than religious belief. I don't think much can be done about the pomposity though...

vetuste; Not since I sold my Roller.
ludwig; Consider the question may sound silly, because you don't understand it.
jomifl; With respect to your wife, one does not exclude the other. If you listen to The Creation and don't feel for what Haydn was saying, then it remains a great choral work, but no more. If you read The Duino Elegies and don't feel for what Rilke was articulating, then they remain accomplished poems. If you look at The Disrobing of Christ and cannot empathise with the feelings of El Greco then it remains a superb painting only.
All these you may understand and like, but my friends, that ain't the whole enchilada.
It is regrettable Khandro, that most of humanity will never be able to commune spiritually with the great artists and musicians as you do. Perhaps your true vocation lies yet before you. Here is a wonderful opportunity for you to cast a scintilla of light into that dark pit wherein all but you well and perhaps some of us may be touched by your aura.
:-)
well/dwell whatever who cares.

jomifl; //Here is a wonderful opportunity for you to cast a scintilla of light into that dark pit....... // I've been attempting to do that all my life ;-)
But so far no progress then?
Question Author
Certainly not on here, but I shall not despair.
Khandro, just out of interest, you say you're a Buddhist, so why are you so intent on defending the God of Abraham?
Naomi, it is all one, once you are touched as Khandro is by the cosmic spirit it is all the same. Why even the Hell's Angels have an element of spirituality which connects them to Khandro...and the Mafia.
Can't answer your question unless you clarify what you mean by 'heathen'.

Is it someone who believes in a polytheistic or indigenous religion?
Or is it simply someone who doesn't agree with you?
using your 'logic', i therefore cannot appreciate paintings of sailing, trains, planes and cars - since i dont understand them and didnt make them
i cannot appreciate pics of any animals - since i am not a cat or dog etc so i cannot appreciate them

so basically i cannot appreciate any art or paintings of anything unless i totally understand and feel strongly about it

one of the main points about art - one which most artists will tell you - is that whats important is what it means to the viewer, rather than what the artist tells you it means... they will tell you their motivation but they want it to speak to you and take you in a new direction. art that can do that is what most artists strive for.

as lazygun has said - this was nonsense the first time you suggested, and nothing has changed.
