DTC Our all singing and dancing and cut and paste Jehovahs usually can't help themselves when an atheist starts a thread, they must be quite besides themselves until they find a suitable long passage to maul to add to the debate knowing full well they are going to be shot down in flames when the wolves gather.
Askyourgran - I agree wholeheartedly. I think it is a real shame that a topic that could be interesting and stimulating has been so comprehensively hijacked by a small, vociferous and aggressive group.

the attacks are not usually personal, ayg, unless they turn it so. It's more about the dogma that they blithely accept and don't even think about what they are being presented with or in producing well-reasoned logic or allegory to underpin their teachings. If they did that (with some recognition of the sources too), then they would command more respect. One example of someone who does that is sandy, there are others too and then the debate can be more meaningful and interesting to read, or even participate in.
The attacks are generally impersonal but to the people who have a religion, Christian, Hebrew, Islam, whatever, it is a personal belief to them and I'm at a loss to know why atheists should be so dismissive of anyone who holds on to their beliefs. All they have to say for themselves is "I can't believe that people are taken in by fairy stories, there is no proof". What proof have they got that their isn't? To many, religion is a foundation of their lives, and a source of comfort to them in times of stress or in times of celebration with their fellow believers. I can see no reason why they should have to justify themselves to a group of people who, in their view, have a life with no meaning. Mojo's post at 21.32 is typical of that flippancy (and what does it mean?). It's just a good vehicle for a (sometimes) hot debate. Btw I'm not a JW either.
It means that my beliefs don't impact anybody's life but religion impacts mine daily and I shouldn't have to be subjected to that.
As for claiming he definitely doesn't exist? I never said that. After all I can't prove there is no god. The evidence against is overwhelming but I never claim anything absolutely. Everything is open to question

I reckon religion was here long before you were mojo - all religions. It doesn't impact much on my life, and unless you live in the middle of a Muslim ghetto I wouldn't let it worry you either, each to his own. It did interest me that Dave has blindsided the 'invisible man' with his politics and made the event of gay marriage legal, but that is all.
