The article by Douglas Murray hits at the very root of the problem – and it does it superbly. Yes, we do need to tackle the scourge on humanity that is radical Islam – and the sooner we recognise that the better for every peaceful law-abiding citizen in this country, whatever their colour or creed. Islamists have far more influence upon the Muslim population than we are willing to acknowledge, and so instead of attacking and addressing directly the fundamental problem of the menace that is radical Islam, we offer excuses and put all our energies into attempting to stifle the understandable results of the creeping spread of its appallingly evil philosophy. Within our society criticism of Islam has become a ‘no go’ zone, resulting in instant accusations of ‘Islamophobia’ being thrust upon those who do recognise the dangers and are courageous enough to voice their concerns. If a Minister for Faith and Communities is to continue to be appointed, we should ensure that the holder of that post is a secularist who harbours no bias towards any particular faith. Baroness Warsi is unfit for office.

Orderlimit, Well, with David Cameron's speech at least it's looking a little more positive. Fingers crossed he means it - and I'm not in the least superstitious!! ;o)
There's a distinct lack of input into this thread, which is a shame. It's a subject that seriously affects not only this country, but the rest of the western world and, as such, one that warrants honest and open debate.

One of the most horrible feelings I've experienced was when I was on a bus and so was someone who looked like a Muslim. I couldn't help but be wary of him, and then as soon as I realised that I was I felt guilty for doing so. That was an irrational fear -- and it's the sort of thing that I hope we can avoid.
Radical Islam needs to be tackled, and I hope Cameron follows through too. I hope that attacks of the sort in Woolwich don't lead to us being suspicious of others just because of what they look like -- that would be the worst outcome.

Jim, //I hope that attacks of the sort in Woolwich don't lead to us being suspicious of others just because of what they look like -- that would be the worst outcome.//
But that's exactly what does happen because no one knows with whom they are rubbing shoulders and that creates a greater chasm in society - which suits the madmen just fine. The reality is we don’t know what ‘they’ look like, as the thread on converts illustrates. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the majority of Muslims, whom we’re told abhor radical Islam, came out in the streets waving placards condemning these atrocities – but they don’t.

Think you know my views on this subject Naomi - even been called a bigot for them. I will reiterate, Islam is not a moderate religion, it is not a religion of peace, it is a religion that calls its followers to lie cheat, kill etc anyone who is not islamic ( an indfidel ) - they will murder, populate other countries until they reach their goal "Global Islamic domination".
