Why Is The Bible's View Of God Good News?

I have been invited to a talk entitled " Three in one ! Why is the Bible's View of God Good News? "
What are your reactions to such an assumption. ?

One good assumption leads to another. At this meeting I would anticipate a heap of steaming assumptions to be piled on top of those already presented in the title for this talk.

cupid I find theists don't answer questions . They quote the bible to prove the bible. Rather like goodlife.

They do, free Chocolate Gateau and a good arguement. Irresistible !
Sometimes I'm outnumbered 20 to 1. Occasionally a husband will sidle up to me and say " I agree with you but my wife's family are religious so I have to come . "

There are some talks , of the pious variety , I don't attend .
You know the type " I was a mass murderer but now I walk with God ."
We had one recently , not a murderer actually , but a serial burglar .

Does the bible have a view? surely it is a book expressing the conflicting views of it's many authors. That is just for starters. Is there anything in the bible about a trinity or '3 in one' ? ....No, made up by the RC church. just like the assumption of Mary ...need I go on?

It's not the religion ( or lack of it ) itself but rather how it affects peoples lives. Our attitudes to lifes problems , successes and failures are shaped by our culture of which religion has always been a major part.
Your lack of interest itself affects your attitude to religious dogma . Does that make sense ?

The Alpha Course, recommended by Cupid, will indeed answer questions – but since its purpose is not to tackle awkward and often incontrovertible observations emanating from rational examination, but to teach the bible as the course’s proponents interpret it, I wouldn’t suggest for a moment that the answers it gives are accurate.

Jom's right. The Catholic church constructed most of the principles of Christianity long before all the break-away churches existed.

Octavius finds the prospect of meetings such as Modeller describes tediuous; I think that, as Modeller describes them, they sound quite interesting.

Engagement is surely preferable to preaching to the converted, especially if it can be kept civil and there is tea and scones :)

Just a personal view Lazygun hence the statement, I prefer attending talks and debates on issues that concern inequalities and poverty in peoples lives right now, and in which I can effect a change that might help someone somewhere get food, water or education.

Listening to two sides of a self righteous sanctimonious debate, role played for the sole purpose of one-upmanship and showboating is really not my kind of thing.

Naomi, I don't think I had a hardest question for the vicar. He found them all hard! The Trinity one struck me as the easiest because it made all the assumptions that believers make and was simply a technical question to which he should have had a simple, comprehensible answer.

The Roman Catholic church did exist before before other Churches; Orthodox churches, for example, didn't have their final schism until the C11. The Catholic church has progressed like the common law, with one difference. Common law evolves by judge made decisions which are meant to reflect the thinking of the people at the time. The Catholic church is slow to adopt this principle, if at all,preferring to think that they know better than the people and can make ex cathedra rulings which they insist bind every adherent. The evolution is generally in the thinking of the hierarchy, not the people.

Seems a dismissive view of the meetings as modeller describes them. Is that how you view the debates in R&S also? I shall have to try to moderate my self righteous sanctimoniusness then, I guess.

Good for you to be active in stuff that can affect change now though. It does not preclude looking at the fundamentals as well, does it? You know, for all us one-upmanship showboating types on here?
