Why Is The Bible's View Of God Good News?

I have been invited to a talk entitled " Three in one ! Why is the Bible's View of God Good News? "
What are your reactions to such an assumption. ?

Probably has to do with the New Covenant also being known as "The Gospel"... " descended through Olde English but from the Greek
euangelion or "good news" (alternately, "glad tidings").

Actually, the article in its emphatic form of the Greek word more accurately means the "nearly to good to be true, news"...

Given the title, I would assume the talk is being given by one of the born again, happy-clappy, evangelical churches. Just hope, for the sake of clarity, the presenter doesn’t speak in tongues! Do let us know how it goes.

I cannot imagine what do you do Modeller, or why you got the invitation. My advice is to stay away, as it highly unlikely that anybody will listen anything remotely anti-Bible, if they are going to attend a talk with a title like that !

A phrase with preaching and converted come to mind.

The bible's view of god is not good news. The old testament jehovah is jealous, bad-tempered, spiteful, vengeful, genocidal, misogynistic, arbitrary, and totally unreasonable.
The new testament god demands human sacrifice.
Impossible to reconcile scripture with good news.

I get these invitations to ensure the speaker and others are challenged.

I also receive such invitations - but not to ensure that the speakers are challenged so now I'm curious. I presume your invitations don't come from the people organising the events?

Yes they do ! Or more correct it's the free church who want to engage with non believers who never go near a church . So each month they have themes very similar to the sort of questions we get on AB. The meeting is part social and part theme based. The majority who attend are believers of a some sort from weak to strong , and then there are agnostics and atheists and those who just like a good arguement.
Some come along because their OH does or to enjoy the free tea and cakes.

I was invited once to a Bible study but didn't feel comfortable going. I'm not quite ready to argue with theists face-to-face...

Jim, they don't expect arguments at bible study courses. They expect you to listen and learn.

God knows! I gave up understanding the Bible when a vicar tried to explain the Holy Trinity, the three in one, to me. And that was the easiest of my questions.
