Shane [the caller]: “The moral compass I have, described by the Bible, is depraved and lost, and it's full of sin and evil. There's no way it [his moral compass, ie. himself] can understand good in the first place.”
I find that statement both depressing and worrying in equal amounts.
Shane's been hoodwinked into thinking that his own morality is inherently faulty. He's swallowed hook, line and sinker the egregious falsehood that he needs god and religion in order to be able to distinguish right from wrong. I almost feel sorry for the sad wretch.
In the words of the late, great Christopher Hitchens, “Religion poisons everything.”. If there was ever a shining example of how religion infects and poisons the way a person thinks, this surely must be a candidate for the first prize.
