I see people are deceived for all kinds of reasons.

Tricksters and confidence men deceive victims to get their money.
Some politicians deceive their constituents, determined to stay in power at any cost.

As in Jesus’ time, many today are deceived in religious matters.

So why do people deceive themselves in religious matters. Proverbs 14:12 states: “There exists a way that is upright before a man, but the ways of death are the end of it afterward.”

Because if you knew 1king 18:21 says will help you. The same choice is set before you today.

There is no reason for me to doubt anything that God promises in the Bible. His Word can be trusted! (Titus 1:2) that is because I say only what the Bible says, it is not what I say, that’s the difference, and it is so simple.

To explain the original question - it is all because the hebrews were the Chosen Race. Nobody else counts - the unchosen are just cannon-fodder, whose murder and suffering are there to show off the power and greatness of the great jehova.
Just don't look in the old testament for tolerance, understanding, generosity, equality, loving-kindness, altruism . . . .

Nature, which is God's wonderful creation, is red in tooth and claw. That goes as much for humanity as it does for any pack of ravening wolves.
So the Biblical accounts of slaughter in the olden days can be taken as guides to permissible actions today.
What the Hebrews did in days of yore, their descendants are doing in Israel today.
