Whatever the ins and outs of this and whether people care or not, the fact is that Halal-style slaughter would never have been countenanced had it not been for religious requirements in the same way that Sikh motor cyclists would not have been provided with an exemption from the crash helmet law but for religious requirements. I mind. I mind very much. I hate it that it is so difficult to find out whether the animal was slaughtered by the halal method or not. I don't eat lamb because I can't find any that isn't halal. And I love it! My local butcher knows his meat is slaughtered locally but he doesn't even know which method is used.
Local councils licence abattoirs according to DEFRA stsndars that are humsne slsughter.

The points are:
1) There are parts of every halal/kosher carcase which are not eaten by Muslims/Jews
2) These cuts must be sold into the general meat supply to keep the price of halal/kosher meat as low as possible. If these unwanted cuts were not used for human consumption, but sent for ( say) petfood, the price of the religious meat would rise colossally.
3) If non-religious people are to buy religiously-slaughtered meat, the sellers know it is much more likely to sell if Not marked. Some meat-eaters don't care, but the sellers of such meat know that enough buyers would care and would refuse to buy, and there would be a problem with over-supply of this meat.
I do care very much that religiously-slaughtered meat can be foisted on me without my knowledge and against my will, just to keep prices down for the religious people.
And I don't see why I should have to stick to pork and fish.
Waitrose see to be missing the point - its not the prayer we object to but the method of killing, where even if pre stunned this is for ease of handing and they are conscious at the point of killing. Clever use of words! Only Morrisons have come clean.

I think my sensitivity about real suffering by animals trumps the imaginary suffering 'endured' by a bunch of self regarding religious fantasists.
Whatever the ins and outs of this and whether people care or not, the fact is that Halal-style slaughter would never have been countenanced had it not been for religious requirements in the same way that Sikh motor cyclists would not have been provided with an exemption from the crash helmet law but for religious requirements. If laws are made there is presumably a purpose for doing so and there is no justification for exemptions just because it does not accord with somebody's beliefs. It's about time that government stopped pussy-footing around by providing exemptions from the law for minority groups. There's a simple answer to people who object to complying with UK legislation - go and live somewhere else where your requirements are accommodated.

In the UK
No you are born agnostic with no opinion.

This is not PC though is it, it is favouring one group over the majority requirement.

Better labelling would help, but maybe some agreement on morally correct way to slaughter food animals might help too.
I disagree. We are born atheist with NO belief in God. There is no indecision, question or doubt- until someone tells you to.
Very good news. Now I can buy my meat from Tesco. I believe they should label it and you people should accept it that Islam is the truth. Sooner, better it is.
So you are suggesting if we could communicate at that age we'd say we have considered the issue and concluded a God doesn't exist ?
I await the moment when goodlife announces that he is renouncing the Witnesses to become a Muslim.

At that point, I shall become a Catholic.

OG, you can be an atheist without being aware of the concept of a god. In fact that is about as atheistic as anyone can be,.

'You people' keyplus? who on earth do you mean? please avoid any racist slurs in your reply :o)
Talk about having'' blood on their hands''.The Halal abattoirs must be flooded out with it . Where does all the blood go? Down the drains ????
No, andres, the likes of Tesco turn it into black pudding.
keyplus, //you people should accept it that Islam is the truth. //

This clearly pleases you because in your mind it means you are one step closer to achieving your heart's desire - to see the flag of Islam flying over Downing Street - which unfortunately the apologists here don't seem to realise. That said, your statement is ridiculous. We've proven countless times that Islam is not the truth. In fact it's far from the truth, but if you prefer to remain trapped in a world of lies and delusion, that's your choice. You can't say you were never told.
I read somewhere that a Muslim woman had unwittingly eaten some meat that was not halal and when she found it was not halal she was violently sick. How's that for idiocy. I could be violently sick knowing that I have eaten an animal that has slowly bled to death while some numpty says a prayer over it. Instead I'm appalled by the violence these people inflict on every form of life in the name of their brutal religion. This insidious spread of their needs seems to be overturning our everyday lives. And where does all this blood go? Tescos can only make so much black pudding.
'Has PC gone too far?'

Yup, all the way back to the Stone Age.
Seriously now --joking aside . Where does all the blood go? There must be thousands of gallons every single day .
