Of all the world's religions it's only the Moslems are perpetually in the public eye. Not only that but if we try to intervene to suggest a course of action we're told to mind our our business as we're 'alienating them' yet if we don't their own spiritual leaders appear to be either impotent or indifferent.
Individually I'm sure they're as sensible and warm-hearted as everyone else but their religion seems only to be happy when they're stirring up trouble.

Yeah, you are not wrong,, what about the Catholics in years gone by or even the Christians.
Maybe this is why religion seems to stir up more trouble than it seems to placate.

I would guess their religious viewpoint hasn't officially modified much over the years. Go back far enough and other popular religions of today, I thinking mostly of the closely related Judah/Christian arena, would have been just as fanatic. I might even go as far as to suggest it may be related to the social constructs in the societies where Islam is dominant that delays such a change. The more democratic and "westernised" there tends to be more tolerance, although there are a few exceptions in some countries in the west. Not that I'm any expert, I just sling that thought out there.

How would you expect me to react to an 11 year old Muslim boy spitting at me because I had been assigned to teach him in his home after he had been excluded from school? His reason? I was a woman and not fit to be dirt under his feet.

They have one stock response to everything ... violence.

It's impossible to take any religion seriously, but Islam is just about the only one left that actually still expects to be, which of course makes it all the more ridiculous.

DaisyNonna, that assumes that no Muslim woman can read, but that wouldn't be true at all. It is, however, true that women teachers are restricted to teaching children and other women only.
