//Pope Francis was mobbed by a group of overexcited nuns, let out from their convents during his visit to Naples.

Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe could be heard through the microphone urging restraint and making lighthearted commentary in a Neapolitan accent.
“Sisters . . . Later. . . . well would you look at that. And these are the cloistered ones. Just imagine the non-cloistered ones,” he said, provoking laughter among the crowd gathered in the cathedral.
“They are going to eat him! Sisters . . sisters!” //

Khandro, indeed – but you don’t know what they’re thinking when they're lying awake alone at 3 o'clock in the morning.
// Pope Francis held and kissed the vial containing the dried blood of Naples patron saint Januarius, which Cardinal Sepe then declared had partly liquified //

At least two reasons why Catholics are, frankly, a bit weird.
Counselling for young mothers?.....Tell that to those who suffered in the Magdalene Laundries.....

And as for a caring nun....in sixty four years I've never met a caring nun....cruel and nasty nuns....vicious nuns....many, but caring nuns?...no.
Maybe its a metaphor, J.J.

Often people find what it is they are looking for gness.
Hmmm....I'm a young, single, pregnant girl in 1950s Ireland.....where shall I look for help....I know....the Catholic Church....with its talk of love and charity.... and those caring nuns will help me......yes....that's what I'll look for in my time of need....the nuns will care for me and help me.......

Poppycock, Khandro....they were there with their evil ways long before I started looking at them with my eyes finally open....
Khandro, try talking to Carakeel. about caring nuns, how she was bullied and beaten and abused by nuns and her parents were lied to, to protect themselves!! Disgusting people, Christians my a$$!!!
And didn't they relish it, Ratter........hurting us was for our own good......they said........to make us good children for Jesus and God......they said....Don't you want to go to heaven and sit at God's right hand......they asked.....

Rubbish.....I still see the nuns with their canes and the way their faces looked when they used them....they loved it......
gness it really make me sick! you would imagine that these people of God were the most trustworthy and 100% safe to be entrusted to look after your children!! If there is a hell I hope they are now rotting in it!!!
gness; I think you need put your post in context. Corporal punishment was not banned in Ireland until 1982 and in the UK 1987. Back in the 1950's at grammar school we miscreants were thrashed quite regularly with (approved) canes and straps, even the older prefects were allowed to administer punishment. I clearly remember the official straps having M.E.C, stamped into them (Manchester Education Committee). I don't think we bore any grudges though, it was just accepted on the basis of - you do wrong and you get punished.
I'll spare you hearing "it never did me any harm" :0)
Khandro, please do not justify the actions of these evil people, these nuns didnt just punish, they were extremely abusive, and we are not talking legal issues here we are talking about being cruel to young children. Talk about "Suffer little children" well they certainly done that and then lied to parent to explain away the bruises!! pure evil and nasty!! You clearly know nothing of what went on, Carakeel was in a Catholic Boarding School in Germany, but it went on in most Catholic Schools from what I hear. Not really surprising when you think of these nuns living a totally unnatural life, often in exclusion from the outside world.
Thank you for sparing me the never did me any harm......that really makes me mad........that we accept the beating of children as being for their own good....that is just crazy......

And as for.....you do wrong you get punished.....so.....the girls who were raped or were abused by family members deserved to end up at the hands of the nuns in Magdelene laundries....worked til they dropped.....beaten and had their babies stolen?

Even you with your acceptance of corporal punishment can't condone that?
This kind of thing puts me right off religion.

venator, this is just the tip of the iceberg!!
No cruelty or wickedness by nuns or priests happened in this convent, while I was there. I cant understand why Ireland has so degraded the the general good works of the RC faith. Only the RCs in S'pore cared for lepers & built them a specialised hospital with nun medics.

Careful Tambo or I will link the Stephen Fry video as a reminder! ;-)
To say ALL the nuns throughout the world are evil because of some terrible historical events, is as naïve as to say that all doctors are wicked because of Harold Shipton or all pilots are suicidal maniacs because of Andeas Lubitz.
Ratter, you cant change a persons real life experience. I can only tell of my life.
Khandro, where exactly did anybody say "all the nuns" we were referring to Catholic Boarding schools in general. But of course you will always try to defend these reprehensible people!!
