Islam is so deeply divided, all Muslims seem to claim the Koran supports their side of the argument, so I reckon it's about time I read it for myself.
Can anyone recommend a particularly good translation ?

I'm as confused as you are by the self-destructive instinct which has characterised all Western nations and their governments from the 60s onward, Birdie. The destruction of social capital through policies which encourage young people to refuse work in order to leech off other people doesn't make
..make moral or practical sense.

The bible was invaluable to Mohammed. He couldn’t have written the Koran without it.
^ His first wife was a Christian and it was from her I believe he gleaned his information about Christianity, but what was he[i before he became the first Muslim? Did he convert from something else or was he completely [i]tabula rasa]
His religion prior to his invention of Islam is disputed, but if he was anything, he was probably polytheistic. His wife’s cousin was Christian, and a very capable student of Judaism and Christianity.
