I have never thought of myself as a religious person but have always believed in God and tried to live a moral life- according to Jesus I suppose.
I have been thankful and prayed but just quietly by myself, Is that still ok?
My life has gone through a great change and I found the only person that was really there was God,I hope that dosen't sound too new age christian, and I would like to give church a go- but which one?
Is catholic too structured and am I too old? what is baptist or methodist?

I was half-way through a long answer when it disappeared! Main thrust was - there is nothing wrong at all in just praying quietly by oneself and sorting out one's relationship with God that way. :) Churches are a bit different, you simply need to find one which suits you and your approach. We were lucky. I was Baptised C of E (and that's a broad church!!!) but was...

Khandro, So, therefore, indefinable - so why assume this 'feeling' is 'God'?
What do you call a person who loves something that doesn't exist?
You mean, like my mother?
do you want to re-phrase that Khandro?
Deja vu coming on. Khandro has started to go around the houses - again.
Hi Just George,
Wonderful that you found God to be there for you. No, you do not sound 'New Age Christian', you sound like millions of ordinary folk who are trying to get to know God better, and to get closer to Him. Praying to Him 'just by yourself' is wonderful; don't forget that it's a conversation with Him, not just a shopping list of wants, but of course you can ask Him for all sorts. He is so approachable and generous.
As for which church to choose, I don't think you should be too worried about which denomination - all have their strengths and weaknesses, which is hardly surprising since they all comprise of human beings who are not perfect! The best guide is your own instinct. When you find a church community that is live and warm (not all of them are I'm afraid) and suits you, and helps you get closer to God, stick with that community. I wish you so well in your new life with Him, and I shall be praying for Just George. A warm welcome to you, good brother.
God bless,

^^Who was it said, Wise men talk because they have something to say, fools because they have to say something. Plato, I think
... and completely missing the irony there^, around he goes again .....
Very drole Khandro, I suppose 'nothing' exists too?
Doesn't take long for a discussion to descend into philosophy...
//philosophy... //

That's one word for it.
naomi; I think jomifl understands, but it's perhaps all too much for you, better you continue your researches into Mesopotamian aeroplanes. :0)
around and around.....
George , to return to your question just to pick up on a sentence :
"... Is Catholic too structured and am I too old..."
The Catholic church DOES do adult baptisms , we had two adults baptised in our church on Holy Thursday this year .
( If this is not what you meant - my apologies )
You don't need to be baptised to get into a catholic church as even atheists get in easily. Plus, you don't need to feel guilty about not giving any of your material assets to the pope.
jomifl;//You don't need to be baptised to get into a catholic church as even atheists get in easily.//
By that I assume you to mean they can enter the building through the front door and look around? You can't be an atheist and have any meaningful involvement with the services of the catholic church, - though there is nothing stopping you from saying a quiet prayer, whoever you are.
Khandro, quite, if churches are 'holy' places and have 'closeness' to god then you shouldn't have to pay to get closer to god. The catholic church got rid of buying one's way into heaven some while ago, after all most catholics are a poor as church mice (lets not go into why that is).
