From the school's website - The Les Beaucamps Religious Studies programme allows pupils to engage with religious, social and moral issues in a contemporary way. We aim to encourage a genuine passion for the subject as well as give pupils the space to develop their emotional and spiritual intelligence.

Pupils focus on developing key skills including debating and learning to show empathy when discussing a topic or viewpoint that does not necessarily reflect their own. Throughout the key stage three course they will work on a variety of topics such as the importance of religion and its role in society, different ‘ways of seeing’, and what is truth? We also explore some of the six major world religions and ethical issues such as Apartheid and Fair Trade. As they move into key stage four they begin to tackle the issues lined up by the Edexcel GCSE Religious Studies course. This encourages them to continue the development of their spiritual and moral awareness by thinking of a variety of emotive issues from the purpose of life to when life should end.

Seems to me that some of the posters on here could do with following the course.
Pixie, No one is suggesting the subject be avoided altogether, but are the schools teaching these children the truth - that Islam subjugates women, or teaches false science? Of course they’re not. They’re teaching a rosy, non-existent version of Islam that the children find no fault with, and hence, do not question or criticise. If that’s what you want, that’s what you’re getting.
This is only one part of the homework though. There's nothing to say what the rest included.
sherrardk, //Seems to me that some of the posters on here could do with following the course. //

Good idea. Try it and let us know how you get on.
They really aren't teaching that, Naomi. Where did you get that from??
They really aren't teaching what?
/hey’re teaching a rosy, non-existent version of Islam that the children find no fault with, and hence, do not question or criticise. //

Are you reading your own posts? :-)
Pixie, I know exactly what I've said. They are teaching a rosy, non-existent version of Islam because they are neglecting to teach the truth - among other things that women are subjugated and that false science is taught as fact - and it is.
They are taught that, though. It would just be unlikely to come into this particular homework.
Pixie, I doubt that very much. I doubt any school would teach negative aspects of Islam, but tell me more.
I don't suppose they spend much time on Catholic abuse either.
What are Islamic Schools teaching about other religions?
Abuse isn't part of the Catholic faith, so I don't think that would come into it. Muslim views on women, do. You have a child of school age, Naomi? You know this. The point is... publishing a one-sided article on one aspect of education is just not accurate, so people are disagreeing with something that isn't even reality. Not unusual with religion, I know.
sherrardk //I don't suppose they spend much time on Catholic abuse either.//

With that one sentence you have exposed your total knowledge of Islam. Zilch. Do your children a favour – learn - and that goes for anyone else who thinks this is beneficial.

DaisyNonna, //What are Islamic Schools teaching about other religions?//

The only thing that Islamic schools will teach about other religions is that they are wrong. There are no half measures, there is no understanding. Don’t expect it because it isn’t there.

Pixie, I despair – I really do.
Actually, it highlights my lack of knowledge of the Catholic faith. I have no need to learn further about religion (quote frankly, I'm not interested in any of it) and neither do I need to be preached to by you.

The national RE curriculum was consulted on by 60 + representatives of various faith organisations and I think that's adequate for the minimal amount of school exposure that my children have to RE.
sherrardk, //Actually, it highlights my lack of knowledge of the Catholic faith.//

Okay, both then.

//I have no need to learn further about religion//

You don't? And yet it you know nothing of the greatest Christian cult, or Islam, the greatest threat to western civilisation. Well, each to their own I suppose, but personally I think it's very important that I understand what other people are teaching my offspring.
You do have a very good point, Naomi, it's just weakened by using an obviously biased misrepresentation in one newspaper article. The plain truth should speak for itself, shouldn't it? There's no need to rise to the predictable trigger this is, when we known there's a difference between what is published....and what is true.
Pixie, there is no newspaper article. The link I gave is to a Muslim website offering advice to potential converts. The truth does speak for itself. Read it.
The link in the OP...
Naomi - //They are teaching a rosy, non-existent version of Islam because they are neglecting to teach the truth - among other things that women are subjugated and that false science is taught as fact - and it is. //

That would chime with the rosy non-existent version of Christianity then - where sexual abuse of children is condoned and covered up and false science is also taught as fact.
