Do muslims share the christian belief that the earth is only 6000 yrs old and that dinosauars walked alongside man?
Do they accept evolution?
Or is there a difference of opinion in the islamic faith?
Thanks.

Not all Christians believe that. Religions tend to split into factions.
Definitely maybe
well the only person here to have read the quran on this thread is Naomi and I am not sure if she will tell us

I have only managed 100 lines or less - but then I havent read the NT cover to cover....

Musllims believe (Q) is literally all true but also all truth is there ( ha ! )
so somewhere there will be advice on how to pay your tax bill [ easy one that one: for Christians "Give to Caesar what is caesar's" will fit the bill ]
and also I was assured that the plans for a nuclear reactor were there somewhere.

I didnt say 'where?' - it would have been rude

so if they accept evolution then it will be there

You can see therefore that the place of Q in their faith is different to the place of the Bible in ours .....

divergence - no sorry if there is a difference between Q and man's opinion then Q takes precedence. The sufi mystic ( mewlana arrumi chellaladin ) along with a few others in the 1200s suggested that "well you know it is 600 y since Q was written and really boys .... "
Alghazali was the one to establish primacy of Q and the rest as far as I can see the rest of them were lucky they werent burnt ( for heresy ) - it did put the stoppers on the golden scientific age tho

Until we wait for those who have read up, some info here...

This doesnt look too bad
some 47 opinions to tease you

some do and some dont

https://www.quora.com/Islam/Are-Islam-and-the-theory-of-evolution-compatible

there are issues over Mama's wiki ref
I think it is written by a christian to be honest
I dont think any muslim would write:
" In recent years, a movement has begun to emerge in some Muslim countries promoting themes that have been characteristic of Christian creationists. "

and to be honest I think the author answers the question when he writes
"In recent years, a movement has begun to emerge in some Muslim countries promoting themes that have been characteristic of Christian creationists. "

which in short is: yes they do xc the usual assortment of crazies
sorry my ref was

https://www.quora.com/Islam/Are-Islam-and-the-theory-of-evolution-compatible

seems to have been blue lined and deleted along the way
There's almost always something amiss in a Wiki link , agreed.

It was just a stop gap till those who have read the parts of the Koran that are relevant come along.
god doesnt want me to write this

the second quote was ....

and to be honest I think the author answers the question when he writes
"Evolutionary biology is included in the high-school curricula of most Muslim countries. Science foundations of 14 Muslim countries, including Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Indonesia, and Egypt, recently signed a statement by the Interacademy Panel (IAP, a global network of science academies), in support of the teaching of evolution, including human evolution"

which in short is: yes they do xc the usual assortment of crazies

sorry nailit copy and paste went mad sorry about that
I have no idea what the opinions of practising Muslims who work in the biological sciences are, but would be interested to find out.

The Koran's account of creation and early history is taken as far as I can see almost directly from Genesis. Adam (the first prophet!) was created out of clay. Noah's ark features as does the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. So I'd imagine most pious Muslims reject at least humankind's evolutionary origins.
Do any christians believe that dinosaurs and man inhabitted the earth at the same time? I have not heard that before.
that Gromit is because you have not lived ....

I wouldn’t call it a christian belief because not all christians believe it and some non christians believe it. You might as well say that “rape is acceptable” is a male belief because some males believe it.
PeterPedant, I haven’t contributed to this thread so far - but I will now.

Few Christians believe that the earth is only 6000 years old. That concept is the preserve of potty Christian creationists like Ken Ham, founder of the Creation Museum. Like most Christians, Muslims believe the earth to be much older and accept evolution as fact - except where human beings are concerned. In order to ensure that the Koran is ‘proven’ to be without error Islamic scholars work diligently at ‘elasticising’ Koranic text in order to ‘discover’ science there that will fit the current mainstream consensus – whatever that current mainstream consensus may be. They haven’t reconciled man’s evolution yet – but that would be a step too far and as far as I’m aware they haven’t attempted it. According to Keyplus the Koran contains information on scientific discoveries yet to be realised, although how he knows that is anyone’s guess. He ought to be worth a fortune!
