Don't think Allah has much to do with this question tbh, but here goes.

If the followers of Allah get their knickers in a twist over depictions of Mohammed, why are so many men called Mohammed?

Is it to venerate him or just a case of selective followings of 'teachings'?

Religions are selective in their bits of their religious books imo.

aaah, thanks Danny.

Was asking on the basis of you don't ask, you don't find out :-) x

On school registers there are quite a few Mohammed Mohammeds.
From the other point of view, except in Spanish-speaking countries no-one seems to be called Jesus.
Naming your son Mohammad is virtue-signalling to the rest of the Muslim community how 'devout' you are.
But Jesus wasn't called Jesus was he!

I think most school registers, throughout the UK are now FF,
I don't know how common the double name Mohammad Mohammad is but in some classes there are two or three in a class of 30 - it's something I hadn't noticed until a year or so ago.
BTW- there is a Todjr on the register- now that is an odd name to give a child IMO
LOL @ Todjr!
"Jesus loves you" can be very comforting words, unless you are in a mexican prison.

Dave.

Feel sorry for the kid when he grows up!

So good they named him twice.
I think the j may be pronounced as y so not too bad.
Actually sounds more like "Hey Zeus" to me.
The gift shops must be a bit boring with most of the mugs etc having Mohammed on them.
To name a child after the Prophet is considered as Honoring him,
(The Prophet , not the child)
So it is a form of veneration or devotion.

Maybe, but many were and still are called 'Christian'

it isn't just Mohammad, they disapprove of showing any living beings. That's why Muslim ar tends to be decorative rather than representational. They don't like strangers taking photos of them. There's a similar line in the ten commandments about not making graven images of God. Once you take a photo of someone, you control a little bit of them - you can show it to people they don't even know, who can judge you on your outward appearance, for instance.

Giving a child one name or another is a different issue.
