There can be no objective moral authority without God.
Without God, what passes for morality becomes purely subjective and chaotic.
How does an atheist identify what is moral authority?

What do you think parents are for, khandro?
Khandro, //Kathyan; It must be very difficult, and confusing for a child to begin life being told that they have to set off with no 'moral compass'//

I can’t see Kathyan’s post – Gremlins maybe – but why do you think the child you refer to has been told he’s set off on life with no moral compass? I assume he has parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents?

Blimey, I really feel for you Theland if you need a 'God' or a 'book' to tell you the difference between right and wrong.
Maybe you need to contrast your own human morality with that of biblegods. You may see a BIG difference!

Is the abuse over now? No?
Well anyway, the established churches are not necessarily true Christian.
Also, women clergy are not biblical, but that does not mean second class. It means we all have different roles to play as ordained by God.
Now carry on with the abuse.
//It means we all have different roles to play as ordained by God.//

Do the people at your hospital know you're out on your own?

If your god is so wonderful, why, in the middle ages, did he allow the clergy to won and run the knocking shops, with the nuns being the 'girls'? Not very holy is it!

Research it and you'll find it.
I wonder how prehistoric man managed in an age before crackpot religion?

It's cutbacks, innit. ;-)
They had more sense then NM. ;o}
:o} Probably.
naomi; (Good morning!) //but why do you think the child you refer to has been told he’s set off on life with no moral compass? I assume he has parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents? //
Yes, I hope so, but it isn't always the case with nuclear families- and if the child is lucky enough to have sensibly concerned relatives - where do they get it from?

If you were to hang around the law courts I think you would find a large proportion of those convicted come from the secular tranches of society. Few real Jews, Buddhists, Christians, or Muslims and of groups like the Amish People - none.
Khandro, //where do they get it from?//

Their own common sense.

If only ‘real’ religious observance saves adherents from a life of crime, I can’t think how the rest of us manage to stay out of prison.
n. I didn't say all secularists are criminals, I said most criminals are secular.
Proportionately, Muslims are by far the largest group in our prisons, Khandro.
I am giving-up replying to Theland because he doesn't give any replies to points put to him. Furthermore he appears to religiously resort to 'copy and pasting' without thinking in any way for himself.

Hans.
I still have to see a book that talks about "Morals" and has nothing to do with religion.....
Hans
'Furthermore he appears to religiously resort to 'copy and pasting'
